Lifting Jesus – Acts 03:01-10 – The healing of the lame man – Bible reading: Colossians 1:15-20

13th Oct 25 | 10:38

“Lord Jesus, help us that without hesitation we will lift Your name in all circumstances.  In Your name, we pray. Amen.”

Act 3:6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: *In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth*, rise up and walk.”

Peter and John made it known to this lame man that Jesus was the treasure whom they shared with him.

We then see that they made known the name of Jesus to the audience that was overwhelmed with the healing of the lame man.  Acts 3:15-16 and killed the Prince of life, whom God raised from the dead, of which we are witnesses. (16) And His name, through faith in His name, has made this man strong, whom you see and know. Yes, the faith which comes through Him has given him this perfect soundness in the presence of you all.

They made it known that the healing was not because of their virtue.  They made known that Jesus was the source of life, whom God raised from the dead.  They placed the responsibility for the death of Jesus on their audience.  They made known to them that through faith in Jesus and faith that comes from Him, this lame man was made whole.

We realise that making known the name of Jesus involves several other matters that go along.  The ultimate purpose is that many would place their faith in Jesus and come into the habitat of God.

Acts 4:7-12 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, “By what power or by what name have you done this?” (8) Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, “Rulers of the people and elders of Israel: (9) If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well, (10) let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. (11) This is the ‘STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED BY YOU BUILDERS, WHICH HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE.’ (12) Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

The clarity and confidence with which Peter and John, lifted the name of Jesus cannot be ignored.  They also took this opportunity to quote the Old Testament to this knowledgeable audience.  Psalms 118:22 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. They were making known this crucial truth that salvation is by faith in Jesus and not by the keeping of the law, which was the position held by this audience.

We see that glorifying Jesus has several other inferences that go along.  Every situation will have a unique set of issues that will need to be addressed as we lift up Jesus. It is the Holy Spirit who will lead and guide us on how to relate Jesus to the specific need of every audience.

Let us take time to gaze at Jesus. Colossians 1:15-20 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. (16) For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (17) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist. (18) And He is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things He may have the preeminence. (19) For it pleased the Father that in Him all the fullness should dwell, (20) and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross.

We dare not rush through as we read the above passage.  It requires us to take time to look intently at each sentence and allow the gravity of that sentence to weigh into our hearts and minds.  It is then that the Holy Spirit will bring alive the truth of each sentence to us.

When we live in the habitat of Jesus and in His habitat experience the fullness of life, how can we not share Jesus and lift up His name in all our circumstances?

We must also see Jesus as the Judge, the Ruler and the King who takes vengeance on those who have rejected Him.

Revelation 19:11-16 Now I saw heaven opened, and behold, a white horse. And He who sat on him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness He judges and makes war. (12) His eyes were like a flame of fire, and on His head were many crowns. He had a name written that no one knew except Himself. (13) He was clothed with a robe dipped in blood, and His name is called The Word of God. (14) And the armies in heaven, clothed in fine linen, white and clean, followed Him on white horses. (15) Now out of His mouth goes a sharp sword, that with it He should strike the nations. And He Himself will rule them with a rod of iron. He Himself treads the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. (16) And He has on His robe and on His thigh a name written: KING OF KINGS AND LORD OF LORDS.

It is this Jesus, whom we lift up.
