The tongue must be yielded to God – Acts 02:01-13 – Filled with the Holy Spirit – Bible reading: Jeremiah 1:4-10

21st Jul 25 | 11:29

“Thank You, Lord Jesus. You are touching our tongues and our lips to heal us. You are releasing our tongues in order to carry and share the pain of Your heart to the nations of the world that are rejecting You. The nations must repent, return, and be restored with You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

We continue to look at the actual event of the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Acts 2:2-4 “And suddenly there came a sound from heaven, as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled the whole house where they were sitting. (3) Then there appeared to them divided tongues, as of fire, and one sat upon each of them. (4) And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” We have been seeing that the tongues of the disciples were released and they were able to utter the things of God in different languages. It is the anguish of God that must be shared with the nations that are against Him. This is the task of His church. We are striving together to bring people to faith in Jesus. The tongue has an extraordinary place in our whole person to bring cleansing within us. We must be cleansed as we stand before God. The tongue is also about our worship of God as He ought. The Lord is Holy. The Holy Spirit gives us utterance before God.

Jeremiah 1:4-10 Then the word of the Lord came to me, saying: (5) “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you; Before you were born I sanctified you; I ordained you a prophet to the nations.” (6) Then said I: “Ah, Lord God! Behold, I cannot speak, for I am a youth.” (7) But the Lord said to me: “Do not say, ‘I am a youth,’ For you shall go to all to whom I send you, And whatever I command you, you shall speak. (8) Do not be afraid of their faces, For I am with you to deliver you,” says the Lord. (9) Then the Lord put forth His hand and touched my mouth, and the Lord said to me: “Behold, I have put My words in your mouth. (10) See, I have this day set you over the nations and over the kingdoms, To root out and to pull down, To destroy and to throw down, To build and to plant.” Jeremiah was being set over the nations and kingdoms, to root out and pull down, to destroy and throw down, to build and plant.  To do this work, God put forth His hand and touched his mouth.

God has a mission for each of us. To fulfil God’s mission, we must have the touch of God on our tongues and on our lips. We need cleansing, we must worship God as He ought and we must carry the pain of God’s heart to the audience to whom we are being sent. The church needs the touch of God on our lips and on our tongues for the power of God to be unleashed through us. Daniel 10:16-18 “And suddenly, one having the likeness of the sons of men touched my lips; then I opened my mouth and spoke, saying to him who stood before me, “My lord, because of the vision my sorrows have overwhelmed me, and I have retained no strength. (17) For how can this servant of my lord talk with you, my lord? As for me, no strength remains in me now, nor is any breath left in  .”(18) Then again, the one having the likeness of a man touched me and strengthened me”. Daniel was in agony for the Lord had revealed His plans to him through visions. Daniel was not able to handle all that the Lord was revealing to Him. The Lord touched the lips of Daniel to strengthen him so that Daniel would finish the task to which he was being assigned. Daniel was not able to talk to God. This is the sense of inadequacy that overwhelms us, when we sense the things of God, for our times. We fall at His feet in repentance, pleading with Him to touch us. He touches our lips and we are strengthened.

Jeremiah 23:29 “Is not My word like a fire?” says the Lord, “And like a hammer that breaks the rock in pieces? God’s message must be shared with power. It is like fire and is like a hammer that breaks all the resistance that people put up before God. The church must halt the evil in our world, for which we need the touch of God on our lips so that we will pull down the evil plans of the enemy and bring forth the righteousness of God.

These are the words of John the Baptist. Matthew 3:11-12 I indeed baptize you with water unto repentance, but He who is coming after me is mightier than I, whose sandals I am not worthy to carry. *He will baptize you with the Holy Spirit and fire. (12) His winnowing fan is in His hand, and He will thoroughly clean out His threshing floor, and gather His wheat into the barn; but He will burn up the chaff with unquenchable fire.” The Holy Spirit is against everything that is contrary to God.  The church must be disturbed just as the Holy Spirit is disturbed over all that is happening in our world and the church must yield to God to be an instrument in the hands of the Holy Spirit to burn out the evil in our world.

“Our tongue must be yielded to God.”
