Healing in the name of Jesus – Acts 03:01-10 – The healing of the lame man – Bible reading: Luke 4:18-19

13th Oct 25 | 10:55

“Lord Jesus, please help us be a blessing to others and give them Your healing.  In Your name, we pray. Amen.”

Act 3:6 Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”

As Peter and John exercised faith and instructed the lame man to rise up and walk, they were moving with a heart of compassion.  The ministry of healing, which we exercise through faith in Jesus, as His church, must come from a heart that longs to bless people.  When we see people, we must see them the way the Lord saw people.

The Lord saw people with compassion and He healed them. Matthew 15:30 Then great multitudes came to Him, having with them the lame, blind, mute, maimed, and many others; and they laid them down at Jesus’ feet, and He healed them. Luke 7:21-22 And that very hour He cured many of infirmities, afflictions, and evil spirits; and to many blind He gave sight. (22) Jesus answered and said to them, “Go and tell John the things you have seen and heard: that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, the poor have the gospel preached to them.

Jesus went about doing good for people. Acts 10:38 how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

This is the work of His church, that in the power of His Holy Spirit, we pronounce healing for people.

God desires for people to be healed. Psalms 103:2-3 Bless the LORD, O my soul, And forget not all His benefits: (3) Who forgives all your iniquities, Who heals all your diseases,

The manifesto of Jesus becomes the manifesto of His church. Luke 4:18-19 “THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; (19) TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD.”

Fulfilling the manifesto of Christ is what makes His church to be fruit bearing. Fruit bearing is about being a blessing to others, just as a tree bears fruit for the joy of others.  We know that fruit-bearing is not optional for a disciple of Christ, it is a mandate. Therefore, giving healing to people in anguish is not just a good thing to do but this is what we must do, for this is the Christian life.

This is the message of God. Isaiah 35:4-6 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, “Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you.” (5) Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. (6) Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.

The Lord has given us, as His church, to be a covenant and as a light to the people who are in the darkness of various kinds. Isaiah 42:5-7 Thus says God the LORD, Who created the heavens and stretched them out, Who spread forth the earth and that which comes from it, Who gives breath to the people on it, And spirit to those who walk on it: (6) “I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, (7) To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.

The works of Jesus caused people to believe in Him. John 14:11-12 Believe Me that I am in the Father and the Father in Me, or else believe Me for the sake of the works themselves. (12) “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.  As we work as Jesus worked, people will believe in Him.

We must also keep in mind that all the works that we do are works that bear fruit or is in being a blessing to others. We do not work for our own survival or for our own success in life. We work to serve and bless people. Our work is to alleviate and elevate people from their present state of crisis or pain. Success and promotion for ourselves will follow.

If we understand this as the work of God’s healing through us in all spheres of life, then our performance in our places of work or profession will be of a very high standard.  God will be glorified through us and people will believe in Him.

We always bear in mind that in all that we do, we lift up the name of Jesus. Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
