Jesus at the right hand of God – Acts 02:14-41 – Peter’s message to the Jews, from all nations – Bible reading: Acts 5:31-32

23rd Aug 25 | 06:00

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that as we are witnesses of Your resurrection.  You have been raised to be at the right hand of God.  We witness Christ from this standpoint knowing where You are seated.  You have also raised us up to be co-rulers and vice-regents with You, here on earth.  In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

Acts 2:33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

Peter is helping his audience understand that Jesus, whom God raised from the dead, is now at the right hand of God.  It is from here that He has poured out the Holy Spirit, who is the promise of the Father. Therefore, this unusual miracle was taking place with the disciples speaking in different languages.

Acts 5:31-32 Him God has exalted to His right hand to be Prince and Savior, to give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins. (32) And we are His witnesses to these things, and so also is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey Him.”

To be the Prince is to be the King, who reigns and to be Saviour is to be the one, who delivers us from death and brings us to the fullness of life.  People can repent and experience forgiveness of their sins.

Philippians 2:6-11 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, (7) but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (8) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (9) Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, (11) and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

Jesus commands such an awesome place that every knee must bow to Him.  Every knee of those in heaven, those on earth and those under the earth.  This means that all beings, both human as well as spiritual, will bow their knee to Jesus.

Does this mean that all will be saved? No.  Today people are rejecting Christ but there will come a day when all beings will bow their knees to Christ and every tongue will acknowledge Jesus as Lord.

Since we know that one day, all beings will bow their knee and confess with their tongue that Jesus is Lord, we go out boldly into the world and witness Christ.

Psalms 118:22-23 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. (23) This was the LORD’s doing; It is marvelous in our eyes.

It was this passage of Scripture, from the book of Psalms, that Peter and John, quoted to the Sanhedrin, the highest body of leadership of the Jews.

Acts 4:10-12 let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole. (11) This is the ‘STONE WHICH WAS REJECTED BY YOU BUILDERS, WHICH HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE.’ (12) Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.”

This is the great confidence, clarity, and boldness that the Apostles displayed.  It came from knowing that Jesus was now at the right hand of the Father.  This is the same place in which we are in today here on earth.  We are to witness boldly Christ to our world, knowing that Jesus is seated at the right hand of God.

Mark 16:19-20 So then, after the Lord had spoken to them, He was received up into heaven, and sat down at the right hand of God. (20) And they went out and preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word through the accompanying signs. Amen.

Witnessing happens with boldness because of where Jesus has been raised.

Hebrews 10:12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins forever, sat down at the right hand of God,

In one single sentence, the writer to the Hebrews has captured this matter of Jesus being raised to the right hand of God.

I Peter 3:21-22 There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, (22) who has gone into heaven and is at the right hand of God, angels and authorities and powers having been made subject to Him.

When we know that all authorities and powers are subject to Christ, what great confidence it gives us.  We can stand up to any audience and witness Christ. There is no need for fear or hesitancy on our part.
