“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are calling us to seek for You. You are eager to rush in and give answers to our questions. Lord, we pray that we will always cultivate within us the hunger and thirst for You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”
The audience heard the disciples praising God for His wonderful works in their respective languages from which they had come. They were perplexed and they were curious to know what it meant.
Acts 2:12 So they were all amazed and perplexed, saying to one another, “Whatever could this mean?”
This hunger and desire in them were enough for the Lord to rush in and satisfy their desire.
We see here a wonderful principle of life. *When a person seeks for the things of God, that is when faith in God is birthed*. A seeking for God is enough for a mustard seed of faith in God to be birthed and that faith in God is enough for the Lord to enter the person’s life and satisfy the person.
Therefore, it is important to cause a spark in people to be curious about the things of God. Our lives, as His church, must provoke curiosity in the hearts and minds of people. The moment they seek to know the truth, the Lord will meet them and provide them with His answers.
When people, genuinely, begin to question and seek answers to their issues of life, the Lord will give them the light and they will know Him.
Matthew 7:7-8 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (8) For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.
The person who asks receives. This is the character of God. He longs for people to know Him and come into an intimate relationship with Him. He longs for people to come into His habitat.
Proverbs 8:17 I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.
When we long to know answers to our questions of life, God will provide us with answers and meaning.
Amos 5:4 For thus says the LORD to the house of Israel: “Seek Me and live;”
This is the basis for life. We seek Him and we live*. Every time we seek God, we are expressing faith in Him. *Faith in Him is our lifeline*. When we seek God, we are expressing to Him, that we have no solutions elsewhere.
Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
The starting point for faith in God is when we diligently seek Him*. We must always cultivate in our lives and in the life of others, the diligence of seeking God in all matters. We know that when we seek Him, faith in Him is born. Faith in God is the basis of our relationship with Him.
When people are perplexed over life’s situations, we must encourage them to seek God for solutions and not try to find answers from the temporal solutions that the world offers. This is where people often go astray. They opt for quick-fix solutions. These quick fixes do not fix anything, rather they take people further down the road of confusion.
Psalms 10:4 The wicked in his proud countenance does not seek God; God is in none of his thoughts.
This is the description of wickedness. Wickedness is denying God. Wickedness refutes God and says I do not need to come to God with my questions in life. I can find my answers. I can run my life. I will find my way out of the mess that I have created.
This is man’s core enmity against God. Man has enthroned himself in his heart. This is also the philosophy of the world. The dictum of the world is, “you have answers within you”. The corollary to this perspective on life is, “God does not exist or even if He does, He is inconsequential”.
This ideology that answers to life are all within me is what prevents man from knowing God. Man must come to the end of his resources and be willing to say, “I am looking for answers from God”. It is here that man experiences the fullness of life, from God.
This group of people gathered here, had this question, “Whatever could this mean?” This question was enough for the Lord to provide them with the answer. Yes, there were mockers too, amongst this crowd but there were genuine seekers as well.
As His church, as we present the claims of Christ to people, we are seeking to ignite in them a hunger and a thirst for God. When people, genuinely, begin to question and seek answers to their issues of life, the Lord will give them the light and they will know Him.
