The glorification of Jesus – Acts 02:14-41 – Peter’s message to the Jews, from all nations – Bible reading: John 17:1-5

28th Aug 25 | 09:55

Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have been glorified.  You have sent us Your Holy Spirit, whom the Father had promised.  Thank You, Lord, for You have left Your Holy Spirit with us, who does the work of Your kingdom through us.  In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

Acts 2:33 Therefore being exalted to the right hand of God, and having received from the Father the promise of the Holy Spirit, He poured out this which you now see and hear.

Peter is explaining to his audience that they were seeing and hearing the promise of the Holy Spirit, whom the Father had promised would be poured out on all flesh.  Peter is referring to the prophecy of Joel which he had quoted in verses Acts 2:16-21 (Joel 2:28-32)

There were other prophesies too of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit.

Isaiah 44:1-5 “Yet hear me now, O Jacob My servant, And Israel whom I have chosen. (2) Thus says the LORD who made you And formed you from the womb, who will help you: ‘Fear not, O Jacob My servant; And you, Jeshurun, whom I have chosen. (3) For I will pour water on him who is thirsty, And floods on the dry ground; I will pour My Spirit on your descendants, And My blessing on your offspring; (4) They will spring up among the grass Like willows by the watercourses.’ (5) One will say, ‘I am the LORD’s’; Another will call himself by the name of Jacob; Another will write with his hand, ‘The LORD’s,’ And name himself by the name of Israel.

God had promised His people of the Holy Spirit, who would come as the Helper.  His coming would be like water to him who is thirsty and floods on dry ground.  The result would be that our generations would be like willows, by the watercourses.

Isaiah 59:19-21 So shall they fear The name of the LORD from the west, And His glory from the rising of the sun; When the enemy comes in like a flood, The Spirit of the LORD will lift up a standard against him. (20) “The Redeemer will come to Zion, And to those who turn from transgression in Jacob,” Says the LORD. (21) “As for Me,” says the LORD, “this is My covenant with them: My Spirit who is upon you, and My words which I have put in your mouth, shall not depart from your mouth, nor from the mouth of your descendants, nor from the mouth of your descendants’ descendants,” says the LORD, “from this time and forevermore.”

The Spirit of God will cause His people to fear Him and walk in His ways.  When the enemy comes in like a flood, they will raise a banner for Jesus.  God will put His words in our mouths and in the mouth of our generations.

These were the reasons why the Lord commanded His disciples to wait in Jerusalem and be filled with His Holy Spirit. Acts 1:4 And being assembled together with them, *He commanded* them not to depart from Jerusalem, but to wait for the Promise of the Father, “which,” He said, “you have heard from Me;

His Holy Spirit would overwhelm the disciples with power.

Luke 24:49 Behold, I send the Promise of My Father upon you; but tarry in the city of Jerusalem until you are endued with power from on high.”

Our Lord Jesus needed to be glorified, for the promise of the Holy Spirit to be poured out on all flesh by the Father.

John 7:37-39 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, “If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. (38) He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.” (39) But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.

What is the glorification of Jesus?  The glorification of Jesus is the core gospel message.

The Gospel message of Jesus, which people must believe to have eternal life is (1) His life, His words, and His works. (2) His death on the cross. (3) His burial (4) His resurrection and (5) His ascension to be with the Father.

John 17:1-5 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, (2) as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as You have given Him. (3) And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. (4) I have glorified You on the earth. I have finished the work which You have given Me to do. (5) And now, O Father, glorify Me together with Yourself, with the glory which I had with You before the world was.

I Corinthians 15:3-4 For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (4) and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,

After completing His work here on earth, Jesus ascended to the Father.

John 17:11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.

This is the core gospel message that every man must believe, to be saved and come into the habitat of God.
