02 Acts 14 08-20 THE MINISTRY AT LYSTRA 48 Acts 14 15-17 Living for eternity
2/48 – Mon, 08 Dec 2025 – *Living for eternity*- _Acts 14:08-20_ – THE MINISTRY AT LYSTRA – _I John 05:11-13_
_Acts 14:15-17 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the same nature as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, (16) who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. (17) *Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.*"_
Instead of being thankful to God for all His provision, the devil has made man self-centred. _Isaiah 22:12-14 And in that day the Lord GOD of hosts Called for weeping and for mourning, For baldness and for girding with sackcloth. (13) But instead, joy and gladness, Slaying oxen and killing sheep, Eating meat and drinking wine: "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!" (14) Then it was revealed in my hearing by the LORD of hosts, *"Surely for this iniquity there will be no atonement for you, Even to your death,"* says the Lord GOD of hosts._
The Lord God is calling us to weep and mourn for our sins of self-centredness and repent before God for our hardness of heart. *We do not trust God, and we are not cast upon Him.* We wish to be independent from God, and the philosophy of life of man is, "Let us eat and drink, for tomorrow we die!". To have this attitude toward life is extremely dangerous.
We do not live only for this life here on earth. God is eternal, and life in Him is for eternity. _Titus 1:2 in hope of eternal life which God, who cannot lie, promised before time began,_ / _Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, Or ever You had formed the earth and the world, *Even from everlasting to everlasting, You are God*._ / _Isaiah 40:28 Have you not known? Have you not heard? *The everlasting God*, the LORD, The Creator of the ends of the earth, Neither faints nor is weary. His understanding is unsearchable._
We live in the hope of eternal life in Christ. _II Corinthians 4:18 while we do not look at the things which are seen, *but at the things which are not seen*. For the things which are seen are temporary, but *the things which are not seen are eternal*._
This is why Jesus came. He came to ensure for us that life which is eternal in God. _I John 5:11-13 And this is the testimony: that *God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son*. (12) He who has the Son has life; *he who does not have the Son of God does not have life*. (13) These things I have written to *you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life*, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God._ God is eternal—unchanging and everlasting—and *those who believe in Christ* are given eternal life, a life of communion with Him that begins now and continues forever.
When a man lives only for the temporal things of life, it is most foolish and dangerous. If our relationship with Christ is only for this present life, then we are the most pitiable. _I Corinthians 15:19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men the most pitiable._ *If there is no hope for eternal life, then the philosophy of the world is applicable.* _I Corinthians 15:32 If, in the manner of men, I have fought with beasts at Ephesus, what advantage is it to me? *If the dead do not rise, "LET US EAT AND DRINK, FOR TOMORROW WE DIE!"*_ If the world today is living by this philosophy, then we can understand that they have rejected God and do not have faith in God, who is eternal.
Whereas the truth is that God is eternal. _I Corinthians 15:53-54 For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (54) So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY."_ / _I Corinthians 15:57 But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ._
This is the reason why we must root out this false understanding to live for the temporal. _Luke 12:19-21 And I will say to my soul, "Soul, you have many goods laid up for many years; take your ease; eat, drink, and be merry." ' (20) But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul will be required of you; then whose will those things be which you have provided?' (21) *"So is he who lays up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God."*_
Man must fear God and keep His judgments. _Ecclesiastes 12:13-14 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all. (14) For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil._
```The Bible repeatedly warns against living only for pleasure—“eat and drink, for tomorrow we die”—is a dangerous philosophy that ends in emptiness and judgment. True life, joy, security and fulfilment are found only in trusting God and living with eternity in view.```
