31 – Fri, 21 Nov 2025 – *Old to new nature in Christ*- _Acts 14:08-20_ – THE MINISTRY AT LYSTRA – _II Corinthians 05:17_

_Acts 14:15-17 and saying, "Men, why are you doing these things? We also are men with the *same nature* as you, and preach to you that you should turn from these useless things to the living God, who made the heaven, the earth, the sea, and all things that are in them, (16)  who in bygone generations allowed all nations to walk in their own ways. (17)  Nevertheless He did not leave Himself without witness, in that He did good, gave us rain from heaven and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness."_

When sin entered the world, we all died. _Romans 5:12 Therefore, just as through one man sin entered the world, and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men, because all sinned—_

Death is alienation from God. _Isaiah 59:2 But *your iniquities have separated you from your God*; And your sins have hidden His face from you, So that He will not hear._

God made it very clear to Adam that he would surely die if he ate of the fruit that God had commanded him not to eat. _Genesis 2:17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it *you shall surely die*."_

Sin caused us to be dead. _Ephesians 2:1 And you He made alive, who were dead in trespasses and sins,_

Adam and Eve lived long after eating the forbidden fruit. _Genesis 5:4-5 After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. (5)  So *all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years*; and he died._

We are faced with a dilemma here. God had made it clear that they would surely die *the day* they ate the fruit. Whereas the serpent said to the woman, _Genesis 3:4 Then the serpent said to the woman, "You will not surely die._

This is a lie and a deception. Out of this lie and deception, the entire world system is built. _Genesis 3:5 For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, *knowing good and evil*."_

Yesterday, we spoke about our relationship with God. God had told Adam specifically about the quality of the fruit. It was the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Thus, Adam knew that there was evil, but *he did not need the knowledge of evil*. He only needed the knowledge of good, and that he and Eve would know in their relationship with God. _Psalm 100:5 For *the LORD is good*; His mercy is everlasting, And His truth endures to all generations._

As children of God, the Lord desires that we be innocent of evil. _Romans 16:19 Everyone has heard about your obedience, so I rejoice because of you; but *I want you to be wise about what is good, and innocent about what is evil*._ (NIV)

*The death that came upon us was our alienation from God.* We were dead in our trespasses and sins, but Jesus made us alive in Him. _Ephesians 2:4-5 But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, (5) *even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ* (by grace you have been saved),_

Being cut off from God is death, for God is life. _Job 33:4 The Spirit of God has made me, And *the breath of the Almighty gives me life*._ / _Ephesians 4:18 having their understanding darkened, *being alienated from the life of God*, because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the blindness of their heart;_ / _Colossians 2:13 And you, being dead in your trespasses and the uncircumcision of your flesh, He has *made alive together with Him*, having forgiven you all trespasses,_

This life that God gave us is the abundant life, or life in all its fullness. _Psalm 16:11  You will show me the path of life; *In Your presence is fullness of joy*; At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore._ Man and woman were in the presence of God, and therefore they had life in all its fullness.

It is from this life that we came to death.

The other death/alienation that came on us because of sin is the law of sin and death, which settled in our bodies. We are dead within ourselves, and nothing we can do, in our own effort, can bring us out of this death to life. (Life in God).

_Romans 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me, but how to perform what is good I do not find._ / _Romans 7:23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members._

It is only in Jesus that we are set free from this law which is in our flesh. _Romans 7:25a I thank God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! ..._ / _Romans 8:2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus has made me free from the law of sin and death._

```When Barnabas and Paul told the crowd that they were of the same flesh as they, they were leading them to Christ, who renews our fallen nature to the nature of Jesus```
