Luke 13 1-9 Repent and bear fruit 02 Repent and be converted or else perish
*Repent and be converted or else perish* _Luke 13:1-5_
_Luke 13:1-5 There were present at that season some who told Him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. (2) And Jesus answered and said to them, "Do you suppose that these Galileans were worse sinners than all other Galileans, because they suffered such things? (3) I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. (4) Or those eighteen on whom the tower in Siloam fell and killed them, do you think that they were worse sinners than all other men who dwelt in Jerusalem? (5) I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish."_
Our Lord wants us to understand repentance. Repentance is needed for all of us and we will understand why it is needed.
As we saw yesterday, the Jews stumbled at the stumbling stone of faith. They saw their righteousness in keeping of the law and so they became judgmental of others. They saw people as being poor or sick as a consequence of sin in that person’s life. The Lord was correcting this flaw in their understanding.
He was showing them that there had to be repentance in everyone as all of us, trusted in ourselves, in different ways.
This is where repentance needs to continuously and consciously take place as soon as we recognise the self seeking to be the master of our lives and our faith begins to rest on ourselves. We repent at the point of our faith and we are converted and place our trust/faith/belief in Jesus, enthroning Him as our Lord, repeatedly. This is why the elders cast their crowns at the feet of Jesus _Revelation 4:10/5:14_ This is when the times of refreshing will come from the presence of the Lord.
_Act 3:19 Repent therefore and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, so that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord,_
The self needs to be taken to the cross repeatedly and as soon as we recognise the self or our flesh seeking any form importance or significance. _Galatians 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me._ This is why Jesus died for all of us, so that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for Him who died for them and rose again _II Corinthians 5:15_
We are now dead and our life is in Christ. _Colossians 3:3 For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God._
It is in our death with Jesus and in our rising again with Him, that our life will bear fruit. _John 12:24 Most assuredly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the ground and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it produces much grain._
*Thought to ponder*
```The tree that does not bear good fruit, will be cut down and cast into the fire.```
