01 – 19Aug2022 – *Peter’s message* - _Acts 02:14-41_ - PETER’S MESSAGE TO THE JEWS FROM ALL NATIONS- Bible reading: _Isaiah 52:7-10_
“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You are calling us to be Your watchmen in this world. We are to let the world know that You have reconciled man to Yourself. We pray that we will fulfil the task to which we have been assigned. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”
We now begin a fresh study of _Acts 02:14-41_. We will title this study, PETER’S MESSAGE TO THE JEWS, FROM ALL NATIONS. We have completed the study of _Acts 02:01-13_, which we had titled, FILLED WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT. This study was of 18 lessons.
*_Acts 2:14 But Peter, standing up with the eleven, raised his voice and said to them, "Men of Judea and all who dwell in Jerusalem, let this be known to you, and heed my words._*
Though the other disciples were with him, it was Peter who was giving voice and articulation to the message of God to this group. As we picture this situation, we are drawn to the man, Peter.
We are familiar with Peter’s inconsistencies. He was vocal. He was usually, the first to speak up. He expressed his emotions, unashamedly. He voiced his unwavering support to Christ but it was Peter, who also denied the Lord.
Let us look at a couple of interactions of our Lord with Peter, in the gospels.
*_Matthew 16:15-19 He said to them, "But who do you say that I am?" (16) Simon Peter answered and said, "You are the Christ, the Son of the living God." (17) Jesus answered and said to him, "Blessed are you, Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven. (18) And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates of Hades shall not prevail against it. (19) And I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven."_*
The church of Jesus Christ was built on Peter’s declaration. _"You are the Christ, the Son of the living God."_. Peter spoke out those words by revelation from God and not out of his flesh. *The church of Jesus Christ is therefore born of God and of His Spirit*.
Peter was now being instrumental in the hands of the Lord to build His church.
*_Luke 22:31-32 And the Lord said, "Simon, Simon! Indeed, Satan has asked for you, that he may sift you as wheat. (32) But I have prayed for you, that your faith should not fail; and when you have returned to Me, strengthen your brethren."_*
The Lord’s plan for Peter was that he should strengthen the brethren or His church. Though the devil wanted to sift Peter as wheat, the Lord had prayed for him and the Lord was taking Peter forward for him to accomplish God’s purpose. Peter is fulfilling God’s purpose for his life, which was to strengthen His church.
*Though the devil troubles us, the Lord is praying for us that each of us will move forward to accomplish God’s purpose for each of us, which is to strengthen one another in the body of Christ*. Peter is a role model for fulfilling God’s assigned purpose in one’s life.
*_Isaiah 52:7-10 How beautiful upon the mountains Are the feet of him who brings good news, Who proclaims peace, Who brings glad tidings of good things, Who proclaims salvation, Who says to Zion, "Your God reigns!" (8) Your watchmen shall lift up their voices, With their voices they shall sing together; For they shall see eye to eye When the LORD brings back Zion. (9) Break forth into joy, sing together, You waste places of Jerusalem! For the LORD has comforted His people, He has redeemed Jerusalem. (10) The LORD has made bare His holy arm In the eyes of all the nations; And all the ends of the earth shall see The salvation of our God._*
God is sending out His messengers to proclaim His good news of salvation and peace to the nations. God is reconciling the world to Himself and bringing the world and the people back into His habitat. *The church is to be the watchmen for the nations*.
Peter lifted his voice and he spoke confidently to the nations, proclaiming God’s plan of salvation and reconciliation.
We, as His church, are the ones whose feet are beautiful, for we bring to the peoples the message that God has reconciled the world to Himself through His Son, on the cross. Man, and creation can come back into the habitat of God.
*_Isaiah 58:1 "Cry aloud, spare not; Lift up your voice like a trumpet; Tell My people their transgression, And the house of Jacob their sins._*
Just as Peter, each of us is expected to cry aloud, lift our voices like a trumpet, not spare but bring conviction of sin, to the people.
*_Isaiah 55:2-3 Why do you spend money for what is not bread, And your wages for what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good, And let your soul delight itself in abundance. (3) Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live; And I will make an everlasting covenant with you—The sure mercies of David._*
We let people know that they were wasting their resources on matters that will not satisfy. When they respond and come to Jesus, they will experience the sure mercies of God.
```Let us be like Peter, to proclaim loudly and clearly, God’s message to the nations so that nations will respond and experience His mercies.```
