02Nov19 - *Being prophets of our time* - _Luke 13:31-35_ - Bible reading: _Micah 3:1-3_

_Luke 13:31-32 On that very day some Pharisees came, saying to Him, "Get out and depart from here, for Herod wants to kill You." (32) And He said to them, "Go, tell that fox, 'Behold, I cast out demons and perform cures today and tomorrow, and the third day I shall be perfected.'_

The Pharisees were trying to frighten and threaten Jesus, using Herod as the threat. We see that our Lord was not afraid but spoke strongly against Herod. This is how the prophets did their ministry. They spoke strongly against the people, the prophets and the princes. The prophets in the Old Testament were not afraid to address those issues in society that were not pleasing God and was against the character and nature of God. _Micah 3:1-3 And I said: "Hear now, O heads of Jacob, And you rulers of the house of Israel: Is it not for you to know justice? (2) You who hate good and love evil; Who strip the skin from My people, And the flesh from their bones; (3) Who also eat the flesh of My people, Flay their skin from them, Break their bones, And chop them in pieces Like meat for the pot, Like flesh in the caldron."_

As the prophets were, so too is our task here on earth, which is to be prophets of our times, to our people, our religious leaders and to the political leaders. Our task is to speak against those things that oppose God. People must repent and turn and submit to the Lordship of Christ over them. This we can only do, when we are close in our walk with God. If we are not intimate in our relationship with God, we cannot be prophets of our time.

Jesus came to introduce His kingdom. He was revealing to people the joy in His kingdom. People were weary and scattered, with many anxieties and troubles. Jesus came and did good works that brought joy into the lives of people once again.

This is what Jesus told the disciples of John the Baptist. _Matthew 11:4-6 Jesus answered and said to them, "Go and tell John the things which you hear and see: (5) The blind see and the lame walk; the lepers are cleansed and the deaf hear; the dead are raised up and the poor have the gospel preached to them. (6) And blessed is he who is not offended because of Me."_

This exposure that Jesus gave to people of His Shalom in His kingdom, was to be a very short window and soon He would go to the cross. _John 14:19 β€œA little while longer and the world will see Me no more, but you will see Me. Because I live, you will live also._

*Thought to ponder*

```Are you being a prophet of God to our people?```
