08Nov19 - *God’s admonishment* - _Luke 13:31-35_ - Bible reading: _I Corinthians 10:11-12_

_Luke 13:34-35 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were not willing! (35) See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "_

The Lord is lamenting over Jerusalem and over His chosen people, the Jews, for their continuous rebellion, though God had shown mercy to them again and again. _II Chronicles 36:15-16 And the LORD God of their fathers sent warnings to them by His messengers, rising up early and sending them, because He had compassion on His people and on His dwelling place. (16) But they mocked the messengers of God, despised His words, and scoffed at His prophets, until the wrath of the LORD arose against His people, till there was no remedy._ They rejected God deliberately by mocking and killing His prophets.

_Nehemiah 9:26-28 “Nevertheless they were disobedient And rebelled against You, Cast Your law behind their backs And killed Your prophets, who testified against them To turn them to Yourself; And they worked great provocations. (27) Therefore You delivered them into the hand of their enemies, Who oppressed them; And in the time of their trouble, When they cried to You, You heard from heaven; And according to Your abundant mercies You gave them deliverers who saved them From the hand of their enemies. (28) "But after they had rest, They again did evil before You. Therefore You left them in the hand of their enemies, So that they had dominion over them; Yet when they returned and cried out to You, You heard from heaven; And many times You delivered them according to Your mercies,_

As we read history, we see that all that is written in the Old Testament, regarding the Jews, has been happening. For us who are living in the end of time, this is a warning and admonishment.

This is what Jesus told the Jews, directly, when He was here on earth. _Matthew 23:34-39 Therefore, indeed, I send you prophets, wise men, and scribes: some of them you will kill and crucify, and some of them you will scourge in your synagogues and persecute from city to city, (35) that on you may come all the righteous blood shed on the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah, son of Berechiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. (36) Assuredly, I say to you, all these things will come upon this generation. (37) "O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (38) See! Your house is left to you desolate; (39) for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'BLESSED is HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "_

Though the Jews rebelled against God, it was because of their rebellion, we the Gentiles were privileged to enter into His kingdom. God’s call for the Jews was that they should be a light to the Gentiles. This call for them was irrevocable, in spite of their rebellion. How glorious it could have been had they yielded and submitted to God?

All that has happened to the Jews has been written for our admonishment. _I Corinthians 10:11-12 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (12) Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall._

*Thought to ponder*

```Let us, in humility, receive God’s admonishment and fulfill His call for us.```
