Luke 13 31-35 The lament of Jesus 10 Living to please Him
10Nov19 - *Living to please Him* - _Luke 13:31-35_ - Bible reading: _Isaiah 5:1-7_
_Luke 13:35 See! Your house is left to you desolate; and assuredly, I say to you, you shall not see Me until the time comes when you say, 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "_
The Lord longed that His people, the Jews, would live in an intimate relationship with Him and enjoy fullness of life. The Lord also warned them, out of His great love for them, that there would be severe consequences to them, if they disobeyed and went away from Him. Did God want them to suffer? No, but because He loved them, He made it plain and clear to them of how sad their life would be if they disobeyed. _Leviticus 26:14-17 'But if you do not obey Me, and do not observe all these commandments, (15) and if you despise My statutes, or if your soul abhors My judgments, so that you do not perform all My commandments, but break My covenant, (16) I also will do this to you: I will even appoint terror over you, wasting disease and fever which shall consume the eyes and cause sorrow of heart. And you shall sow your seed in vain, for your enemies shall eat it. (17) I will set My face against you, and you shall be defeated by your enemies. Those who hate you shall reign over you, and you shall flee when no one pursues you._
This passage in Isaiah bring across the pain of God’s heart for the Israelites. _Isaiah 5:1-7 Now let me sing to my Well-beloved A song of my Beloved regarding His vineyard: My Well-beloved has a vineyard On a very fruitful hill. (2) He dug it up and cleared out its stones, And planted it with the choicest vine. He built a tower in its midst, And also made a winepress in it; So He expected it to bring forth good grapes, But it brought forth wild grapes. (3) "And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, Judge, please, between Me and My vineyard. (4) What more could have been done to My vineyard That I have not done in it? Why then, when I expected it to bring forth good grapes, Did it bring forth wild grapes? (5) And now, please let Me tell you what I will do to My vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be burned; And break down its wall, and it shall be trampled down. (6) I will lay it waste; It shall not be pruned or dug, But there shall come up briers and thorns. I will also command the clouds That they rain no rain on it." (7) For the vineyard of the LORD of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah are His pleasant plant. He looked for justice, but behold, oppression; For righteousness, but behold, a cry for help._
This was the prophesy of Jesus to His people, the Jews. _Luke 21:24 And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled._
As we read these passages, they are a solemn warning for the us, the church. For we have no excuses that we do not know the ways of God. Yet, today, we live out a half-hearted, insincere and a lukewarm relationship with Jesus. We often come to God as a means to our end. We have not sought Him, whole heartedly, and we were trying to please Him with our fleshly effort and not by His Holy Spirit.
*Thought to ponder*
```Will we, the church, have a passionate relationship with our bridegroom?```
