Luke 14 15-24 The marriage feast of the Lamb 02 Giving excuses
08Dec19 - *Giving excuses* - _Luke 14:15-24_ - Bible reading: _John 12:24-25_
_Revelation 19:9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."_
_Luke 14:15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God!"_
The statement made by this man, after hearing the teaching of Jesus, about being a friend of the poor, reveals that he was connecting the teachings of Jesus to the prophesies of the Old Testament of the inauguration of God’s kingdom, where the poor will reign with Him. He was right to this point but what he missed was that he did not recognize Jesus as the King in God’s kingdom. If he had recognized Jesus, his response would have been of worship. It was not.
This is the problem with the majority of us. We have no problem with understanding the things of eternity but when it comes to our everyday life, we are focused on the things of the world and we are good at giving excuses.
Whereas, the heart of God, longs that we be part of the marriage feast of the Lamb, His Son, and that is what our entire life be focused on, which is His kingdom both now and for eternity. _Matthew 22:2-5 “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, (3) and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. (4) Again, he sent out other servants, saying, 'Tell those who are invited, "See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding." (5) But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business.
All of those, who were invited gave excuses for not participating in the marriage feast of the Lamb.
The marriage feast is not sometime in the future. The feast has begun. The meal is all set on the table and we are invited to come and join the celebration. The Church ought to be living today in the experience of the marriage feast with Jesus, her Bridegroom.
Is that how it is?
Our life today is cluttered. We are so anxious about many things of this world. If we do not get our priority and our focus right, we will face severe consequences. _John 12:25 He who loves his life will lose it, and he who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Matthew 10:39 He who finds his life will lose it, and he who loses his life for My sake will find it. Mark 8:35 For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake and the gospel's will save it._
*Thought to ponder*
```Would you choose to put aside all your pursuits in this world and give yourself entirely to Christ? The Lord calls you to come.```
