Luke 23 06-17 THE LORD WATCHES 10 Luke 23 13-16 He who was without sin, died for our sins
Wed24Nov2021 – He who was without sin, died for our sins - Luke 23:06-17 - THE LORD WATCHES (10) - Bible reading: I Peter 2:22-25
The Lord has made it known to the whole of humanity that there is no other way for man to be saved, except through faith in Jesus. History has made this abundantly clear. It requires man to honestly examine the facts.
If a man chooses not to look at the truth but remains adamant about staying in his own ways, then that person stands condemned.
John 3:18 “He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.
Our prayer is that people’s eyes would open. We tell the devil to take his hands of people so that people would be free to exercise their choice to look at Jesus, factually.
Luke 23:13-16 Then Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests, the rulers, and the people, (14) said to them, "You have brought this Man to me, as one who misleads the people. And indeed, having examined Him in your presence, I have found no fault in this Man concerning those things of which you accuse Him; (15) no, neither did Herod, for I sent you back to him; and indeed nothing deserving of death has been done by Him. (16) I will therefore chastise Him and release Him"
The Jews wanted Jesus to be nailed to the cross, right away but that did not take place. Instead, the trial process was extended.
What we see in this passage is that Pilate was finding it difficult to find any fault in Jesus. He confirmed Jesus to be without fault, not once, but several times.
Jesus’ guilt, according to the Jews, was that He said that He was the I AM. They said it was blasphemy and that a blasphemer must die. Jesus was the I AM and therefore what the Jews said was Jesus’ guilt was no guilt at all.
Herod did not find any fault in Jesus
Mankind should know that none of the human courts could find any fault in Jesus. He was without sin.
This gives us an understanding as to why this trial was prolonged. The world judged Jesus to be sinless. This is important. This deduction must be arrived at, as the starting point, for the world to know Jesus.
Our sin has a cost before God. Sin must be punished before a righteous God. The wages of sin is death.
Jesus could not be put to death for His sins, for He had no sin. Yet, Jesus was sentenced to death on the cross by all the human courts, together, which had confirmed Him to be without fault.
Was this crucifixion of Jesus, therefore, a simple aberration in the judicial process? No. This was no glitch. This was the deliberate, considered, and extended process of trial by which humanity decided to put the sinless Son of God to the cross.
For whom was He having to die, since He did not die for His own sin, He had no sin?
It was for the sin of humanity.
This is what the world did through this trial. We can praise God for this process. All the world must be stopped from speaking any further, for all the different groups involved in the process of trying Jesus, found Him to be, NOT GUILTY. Yet, they crucified Him, not for His sin, but the sin of the human race.
It is not the church trying to prove that Jesus is the Saviour of the world but it is the world which confirms that a sinless man was sent to death on the cross, for the sin of humanity.
I Peter 2:22-25 “ WHO COMMITTED NO SIN , NOR WAS DECEIT FOUND IN HIS MOUTH”; (23) who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but committed Himself to Him who judges righteously; (24) who Himself bore our sins in His own body on the tree, that we, having died to sins, might live for righteousness—by whose stripes you were healed. (25) For you were like sheep going astray, but have now returned to the Shepherd and Overseer of your souls.
This is the core gospel message of substitution. We should pay for our sin, we could not do so but Jesus died in our place.
Hebrews 4:15-16 For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin. (16) Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Once a person understands the purpose of Jesus going to the cross and receives this message by simple faith, then everything else, in this relationship with God, becomes easy to grasp.
We repent and return to the overseer of our souls. We thankfully receive and accept His substitution for us on the cross and we enter into a relationship with Jesus, where it is no more about us but it is all about His grace.
We will look at a few of the amazing blessings that we have received because Jesus went to the cross, in our place.
Thought to ponder
The Lord has done everything for humanity to return to God. Man is therefore without excuse.
