17Dec19 - *Abolished in His flesh, the enmity* - _Luke 14:15-24_ - Bible reading: _Ephesians 2:11-22_

_Revelation 19:9 Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."_

_Luke 14:23-24 Then the master said to the servant, 'Go out into the highways and hedges, and compel them to come in, that my house may be filled. (24) For I say to you that none of those men who were invited shall taste my supper.' "_

Jesus was narrating this story of a man, who gave a great supper and invited many. We have been saying that this is about the marriage feast of the Lamb to His bride, the Church. God is inviting all to the feast

The Master was sending the servant to go into the highways and the hedges and bring people to the feast, for those who were invited were not worthy. This is about God reaching out to us, Gentiles. The Jews, were the ones, who were first invited but they refused. They not only refused but they were not willing to see the Gentiles come into the family of God. The Lord was breaking the middle wall of partition that separated the Jews from the Gentiles.

To understand what God has done, let us examine this passages in _Ephesians 2:11-22_

_Ephesians 2:11-15 Therefore remember that you, once Gentiles in the flesh—who are called Uncircumcision by what is called the Circumcision made in the flesh by hands_ We were Gentiles because of the law and ordinances and very importantly because of circumcision.

_— (12) that at that time you were without Christ, being aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and strangers from the covenants of promise, having no hope and without God in the world._ We, Gentiles, were aliens from the commonwealth of Israel and we were strangers from the covenants and promises. We had no hope of a Messiah and without God in this world. Whereas, the Jews had the covenants, they had a relationship with God and they had the promise of the Messiah and so they had hope.

_(13) But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ._ In Christ, we, both Jews and Gentiles have been brought near, by His blood. How did this happen? He, Jesus Christ became our peace. _(14) For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, (15) having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace,_

God came in the flesh and lived in this world, without sin, though He was tempted in every way just like us. His body and His flesh thus became the place where the righteousness of God was fully met. Jesus met the righteous requirement of law in the flesh, which the Jews were never able to do, thought they strived by their own effort.

The Jews had to turn to Jesus and receive His work on the cross, by faith, in order to be made righteous. For us, Gentiles, who had no understanding and no hope, it was easy, because Jesus gave us, that for which we had no hope.

So, in Christ, both Jew and Gentiles, are made as one new man by *abolishing in His flesh the enmity*.

*Thought to ponder*

```There is no more basis for enmity in this world for Jesus’ body was broken and His blood was shed for everyone.```
