27Mar2021 - *The encouragement of scripture and the power of God* - _Luke 20:27-40_ - HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING 8 – Bible reading: _I Corinthians 15:48-49_

Jesus is giving His response to the Sadducees, who asked the question of resurrection but they couched their intent within the issue of marriage.

The Lord’s response was to show them how foolish their thinking was in rejecting the resurrection. The Lord is revealing to us that the resurrection is about the age which is to come and as He reveals details of the coming age, He is also putting to rest the matter of marriage, which they raised.

_Luke 20:34-35 Jesus answered and said to them, "The sons of this age marry and are given in marriage. (35) But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage;_

Jesus is telling us that the institution and relationship of marriage, as we experience it here on earth, is only for this age. It is not for the age which is to come.

We will also not have the institution of family life, as we know it here, since there will be no more giving and taking in marriage. Marriage and family relationships are only for this age and not for the age to come.

There will be the marriage of the Lamb with His bride, the church, in the age which is to come and we will dwell upon this eternal marriage as we go along in this study.

Let us now focus on the part of knowing the scripture and the power of God

_Matthew 22:29-30 Jesus answered and said to them, "You are mistaken, *not knowing the Scriptures nor the power of God*. (30) For in the resurrection they neither marry nor are given in marriage, but are like angels of God in heaven._

_Psalm 17:15 As for me, I will see Your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness._

God is preparing us in righteousness for the age to come and to be in His likeness. Our responsibility now is to be in alignment with what God is doing in each of us and not resist His work in us.

_Isaiah 25:8-9 He will swallow up death forever, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. (9) And it will be said in that day: "Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the LORD; We have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation."_

We can be encouraged and assured for in the age to come, there will be no more tears. The rebuke and reproach that we have had to undergo, here on earth, because of being called by His name, will not be there. There we will rejoice and be glad.

The Sadducees were not considering the scriptures and were not understanding the power of God.

_I John 3:2 Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for *we shall see Him as He is*._

The scripture is telling us that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him for we shall see Him as He is. Ought not we to pursue being in-tune with the purposes of God, with great joy?

Apostle Paul tells us more about our transformation for the age to come.

_Philippians 3:20-21 For our citizenship is in heaven, from which we also eagerly wait for the Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, (21) *who will transform our lowly body that it may be conformed to His glorious body*, according to the working by which He is able even to subdue all things to Himself._

We have much to learn about the age which is to come in _I Corinthians 15_

_I Corinthians 15:42-44 So also is the resurrection of the dead. The body is sown in corruption, it is raised in incorruption. (43) It is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory. It is sown in weakness, it is raised in power. (44) It is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body. There is a natural body, and there is a spiritual body._

The body that we have right now is the natural body. It has its limitations and it is infected by sin. There is coming a time when we will be clothed with the spiritual body. We are longing to be clothed with our habitation from heaven.

_II Corinthians 5:1-6 For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. (2) For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, (3) if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. (4) For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. (5) Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. (6) So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord._

The Spirit of God is the initial deposit placed in us, for in the age to come we will have a spiritual body.

_I Corinthians 15:48-50 As was the man of dust, so also are those who are made of dust; and as is the heavenly Man, so also are those who are heavenly. (49) And as we have borne the image of the man of dust, we shall also bear the image of the heavenly Man. (50) Now this I say, brethren, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God; nor does corruption inherit incorruption._

How will the transformation take place?

_I Corinthians 15:52-55 in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, and the dead will be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed. (53) For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality. (54) So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY." (55) "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?"_

May the Lord enable us to be caught up with the understanding of the scriptures and the power of God.

*Thought to ponder*

```Death is defeated and we will reign with the King.```
