Wed 15 Dec 2021 – Healing of nations - Luke 23:26-43 - THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS (05) - Bible reading: Psalms 106:19-23

The Lord’s love for us is immeasurable. We need to be those people who are aligned with the heart of God. We need to be those who carry the pain of God’s heart for our cultures, societies and nations. We need to be those who will repent on behalf of our people before God and seek His forgiveness. The Lord is plenteous in mercy and compassion. He will forgive and He will heal our land.

The Lord addressed the women as He was going to be crucified.

Luke 23:27-31 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. (28) But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. (29) For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!' (30) Then they will begin 'TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, "FALL ON US!" AND TO THE HILLS, "COVER US!" ' (31) For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"

Women have such a crucial role in the building of a society. As the Lord speaks to the women, He is expressing His pain for the terrible state of our cultures and societies.

Isaiah 59:14-16 Justice is turned back, And righteousness stands afar off; For truth is fallen in the street, And equity cannot enter. (15) So truth fails, And he who departs from evil makes himself a prey. Then the LORD saw it, and it displeased Him That there was no justice. (16) He saw that there was no man, And wondered that there was no intercessor; Therefore His own arm brought salvation for Him; And His own righteousness, it sustained Him.

We see in our world that if a person stands for truth and departs from evil, that person suffers more than the others. The Lord sees the condition of our world and He wonders that there was no man, no one to intercede on behalf of our people before God.

Jeremiah 5:1 “Run to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem; See now and know; And seek in her open places If you can find a man, If there is anyone who executes judgment, Who seeks the truth, And I will pardon her.

Friends, consider the heart of God. He longs to pardon our cultures, societies and nations. He is longing to see if there will be those who execute righteous judgment and stand before God on behalf of the land.

Ezekiel 13:4-5 O Israel, your prophets are like foxes in the deserts. (5) You have not gone up into the gaps to build a wall for the house of Israel to stand in battle on the day of the LORD.

The Lord is saying that there is no one to stand in the gap and build a wall for the nations. We are not there to stand in the battle. The enemy comes in like a flood into our cultures and the church is asleep.

The Lord is showing us the example of one such person who stood in the breach on behalf of the people.

Psalms 106:19-23 They made a calf in Horeb, And worshiped the molded image. (20) Thus they changed their glory Into the image of an ox that eats grass. (21) They forgot God their Savior, Who had done great things in Egypt, (22) Wondrous works in the land of Ham, Awesome things by the Red Sea. (23) Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach, To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them.

Moses stood in the gap on behalf of the people, before God, seeking God’s forgiveness for the sin of the people. God’s wrath on the people was turned away.

This is our role. This is the role of the church, the chosen ones of God, to stand in the gap and bring healing to our cultures, societies and nations.

Matthew 9:35-38 Then Jesus went about all the cities and villages, teaching in their synagogues, preaching the gospel of the kingdom, and healing every sickness and every disease among the people. (36) But when He saw the multitudes, He was moved with compassion for them, because they were weary and scattered, like sheep having no shepherd. (37) Then He said to His disciples, "The harvest truly is plentiful, but the laborers are few. (38) Therefore pray the Lord of the harvest to send out laborers into His harvest."

The Lord sees the terrible condition of the people. People are wandering aimlessly and they are weary. He sees that people do not have shepherds amongst them.

This is the harvest. This terrible condition needs to be changed. This situation must be changed to the Shalom of God.

People, individually, must repent, return and be restored to God. This individual restoration must lead to the well being of God to descend on the culture, society and nation.

The harvest everywhere is plentiful but the labourers, who identify with the pain of God’s heart, who are like Moses, to stand in the breach on behalf of the people, are very few.

Our prayer ought to be that the Lord would raise more such labourers, who carry the pain of God’s heart and stand in the gap before God on behalf of the land.

The message of the Good News of Jesus is not limited to personal salvation. Yes, personal salvation is the core but that individual turnaround must lead to the healing of the entire community and nation. This is the Good News .

Thought to ponder

Are you a labourer for Jesus?
