Fri 17 Dec 2021 – Raising children in the end times - Luke 23:26-43 - THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS (07) - Bible reading: Philippians 2:15-16
The Lord is speaking to us concerning the importance of raising godly generations. The end times are frightening. It is in these difficult times that we need to raise up our generations to live in the habitat of God.
Luke 23:27-31 And a great multitude of the people followed Him, and women who also mourned and lamented Him. (28) But Jesus, turning to them, said, "Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for Me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. (29) For indeed the days are coming in which they will say, 'Blessed are the barren, wombs that never bore, and breasts which never nursed!' (30) Then they will begin 'TO SAY TO THE MOUNTAINS, "FALL ON US!" AND TO THE HILLS, "COVER US!" ' (31) For if they do these things in the green wood, what will be done in the dry?"
We have considered our role in bringing the Shalom of God into our culture, society and nation. We also looked into the importance of raising our generations for the purpose of the Gospel of Jesus.
The Lord spoke these words about children, in the context of what is to happen in the end times. The Lord is showing us that the end times will be so very bad that people will say that it would have been better to be barren than to have had children.
Hosea 9:12-17 Though they bring up their children, Yet I will bereave them to the last man. Yes, woe to them when I depart from them! (13) Just as I saw Ephraim like Tyre, planted in a pleasant place, So Ephraim will bring out his children to the murderer." (14) Give them, O LORD— What will You give? Give them a miscarrying womb And dry breasts! (15) "All their wickedness is in Gilgal, For there I hated them. Because of the evil of their deeds I will drive them from My house; I will love them no more. All their princes are rebellious. (16) Ephraim is stricken, Their root is dried up; They shall bear no fruit. Yes, were they to bear children, I would kill the darlings of their womb." (17) My God will cast them away, Because they did not obey Him; And they shall be wanderers among the nations.
This is what is to happen, more and more in our world, as the world continues to reject God. We see that children are the ones who suffer much in our times of wars, famines, earthquakes, tsunamis, floods and pandemics. These things are to increase in the days ahead as the world races further away from God.
This is not what God desired for us but we have brought all of these on ourselves because of our rebellion against God.
Isaiah 2:19 They shall go into the holes of the rocks, And into the caves of the earth, From the terror of the LORD And the glory of His majesty, When He arises to shake the earth mightily.
People will hide from the terror of the Lord when He rises to shake the earth.
Revelation 6:12-17 I looked when He opened the sixth seal, and behold, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became like blood. (13) And the stars of heaven fell to the earth, as a fig tree drops its late figs when it is shaken by a mighty wind. (14) Then the sky receded as a scroll when it is rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved out of its place. (15) And the kings of the earth, the great men, the rich men, the commanders, the mighty men, every slave and every free man, hid themselves in the caves and in the rocks of the mountains, (16) and said to the mountains and rocks, "Fall on us and hide us from the face of Him who sits on the throne and from the wrath of the Lamb! (17) For the great day of His wrath has come, and who is able to stand?"
This is what God’s word tells us of how things are going to be in the end times.
Particularly, what does the word of God tell us about the matter related to children, in the end times?
II Timothy 3:1-5 But know this, that in the last days perilous times will come: (2) For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, (3) unloving, unforgiving, slanderers, without self-control, brutal, despisers of good, (4) traitors, headstrong, haughty, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, (5) having a form of godliness but denying its power. And from such people turn away!
This is how society will be in the end times. This is graphically made known to us. Disobedience to parents is one of the characters of the end of our age.
Romans 1:28-32 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a debased mind, to do those things which are not fitting; (29) being filled with all unrighteousness, sexual immorality, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, evil-mindedness; they are whisperers, (30) backbiters, haters of God, violent, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, (31) undiscerning, untrustworthy, unloving, unforgiving, unmerciful; (32) who, knowing the righteous judgment of God, that those who practice such things are deserving of death, not only do the same but also approve of those who practice them.
Even in the midst of this frightening scenario, the Lord still calls us to raise up godly generations.
Philippians 2:15-16 that you may become blameless and harmless, children of God without fault in the midst of a crooked and perverse generation, among whom you shine as lights in the world, (16) holding fast the word of life, so that I may rejoice in the day of Christ that I have not run in vain or labored in vain.
Thought to ponder
Be encouraged, for we are in the habitat of God.
