Luke 20 27-40 He is not the God of the dead but of the living 11 Luke 20 35-36 Escape the second death
30Mar2021 - *Escape the second death* - _Luke 20:27-40_ - HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING 11 – Bible reading: _I Corinthians 15:54-58_
The Lord goes further to explain to us details of the age which is to come.
_Luke 20:35-36 But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; (36) *nor can they die anymore*, for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection._
The Lord is telling us that those who are counted worthy to attain the age which is to come, cannot die anymore. Death has been defeated once and for all. The ultimate enemy is death and death has been defeated. When the ultimate enemy has been defeated, what should prevent us from going all out in fulfilling what the Lord has for us?
_I Corinthians 15:26 The last enemy that will be destroyed is death._
_Isaiah 25:8 *He will swallow up death forever*, And the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the LORD has spoken. Hosea 13:14 “I will ransom them from the power of the grave; *I will redeem them from death*. O Death, I will be your plagues! O Grave, I will be your destruction! Pity is hidden from My eyes."_
What will happen to death?
_Revelation 20:14-15 Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire._
God does not want anyone to perish in this second death. This is why God loved us and gave us His only begotten Son that whosoever will believe in the Son, *will not perish*. The perishing from which God is saving us is the second death or the lake of fire.
This lake of fire is a dreadful place and a place of eternal torment. This is a place reserved for the devil and his angels. _Matthew 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, *into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels*:_
This is the reason why the Lord is delaying His coming, for He does not want anyone to perish and He is giving man opportunity upon opportunity to repent and turn to Him and live with Him in the new age and not be cast into the lake of fire and torment.
_II Peter 3:9 The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some count slackness, but is longsuffering toward us, not willing that any should perish but that all should come to repentance._
*When we give our life to Jesus and we live in and under His habitat then we are experiencing resurrection*. To those who are experiencing the first resurrection the second death or the lake fire will have no power.
For the Sadducees to say that there is no resurrection or denying the resurrection, was a deep folly
_Revelation 20:6 *Blessed and holy is he who has part in the first resurrection. Over such the second death has no power*, but they shall be priests of God and of Christ, and shall reign with Him a thousand years._
_I Corinthians 15:54-58 So when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: "DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP IN VICTORY." (55) "O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?" (56) The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. (57) *But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ*. (58) Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord._
We, who have entered the first resurrection, have our life clearly mapped out before us. *Our life is to be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord*, for the last enemy, death has been defeated.
_Revelation 21:4 And God will wipe away every tear from their eyes; *there shall be no more death*, nor sorrow, nor crying. There shall be no more pain, for the former things have passed away."_
*Thought to ponder*
```“Remove, O Lord, from within me all hesitation and reluctance to lay my all on your altar”.```
