31Mar2021 - *The inheritance that awaits us* - _Luke 20:27-40_ - HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING 12 – Bible reading: _I Peter 1:3-4_

The Lord is revealing to us more features of the age that is to come.

_Luke 20:35-36 But those who are counted worthy to attain that age, and the resurrection from the dead, neither marry nor are given in marriage; (36) nor can they die anymore, *for they are equal to the angels and are sons of God, being sons of the resurrection*._

Those counted worthy to attain the next age are equal to the angels and are the sons of God and sons of the resurrection

We need to live out our inheritance right from now, for we know what is assured for us and so we give ourselves joyfully to Christ as people of the age to come. We can live a life of praise and worship to God in all circumstances for we are assured of our eternal inheritance in Christ.

_I Peter 1:3-4 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, (4) *to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you*,_

We ought to be qualitatively unique and different people as we live in this world. We do not live lives of being weighed down heavily with the issues of our present times but we live overcoming lives because of the inheritance incorruptible and undefiled that is assured for us.

To enjoy the life of God’s inheritance now, we live in the realm of the Holy Spirit.

_Ephesians 1:11-14 *In Him also we have obtained an inheritance*, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will, (12) that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory. (13) In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, *you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (14) who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory*._

It is not only that we are redeemed now but the fullness of the understanding of redemption will become a joyful reality in the age which is to come.

The Holy Spirit is sealing us for the fullness of the age to come. The Holy Spirit will never ever fail us, however difficult and frightening our crisis may be that we are going through, right now. It is the Holy Spirit who enables us, moment by moment, to rise above and rise victoriously over our present challenges.

If we continue to live in the flesh and not be dependent and trusting in the Holy Spirit then we are negating all that God has promised for us and we are being foolish.

It is the Holy Spirit who enables us to appropriate our inheritance even now and He guarantees for us the fullness of the inheritance that awaits us in the age to come.

_Romans 8:14-18 *For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are sons of God*. (15) For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father." (16) The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (17) and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if indeed we suffer with Him, that we may also be glorified together. (18) For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us._

This journey with the Holy Spirit is about appropriating the inheritance that awaits us. The Holy Spirit makes us cry out, “Abba, Father”. We, therefore, seek to be led by the Holy Spirit always. The challenges of the present time cannot be compared with the glory that awaits us.

Our time here is to be led by the Holy Spirit for we are being prepared for the inheritance that awaits us.

*Thought to ponder*

Satan’s strategy is to make up to operate out of the flesh. When we fall prey to the devil’s devices then we forego our blessing but instead cover ourselves with sorrow.
