02Apr2021 - *He is the same yesterday, today and forever* - _Luke 20:27-40_ - HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING 14 – Bible reading: _Jeremiah 31:33-34_
We now come to the theme of our study, HE IS NOT THE GOD OF THE DEAD BUT OF THE LIVING. _Luke 20:37 But even Moses showed in the burning bush passage that the dead are raised, when he called the Lord 'THE GOD OF ABRAHAM, THE GOD OF ISAAC, AND THE GOD OF JACOB.'_
God is the God of the living and not of the dead. Abraham, Isaac and Jacob are, right now, in the presence of God, worshipping Him. They are not our fathers, who are no more, but they are alive and with God, who is and will always be with us and with our generations after us.
Our life here on earth must be seen and evaluated from the perspective of eternity. *Are we living with an understanding of eternity with God or are we making choices and decisions in life, which are purely for our own wellbeing, without considering the matter of eternity?*
God is ever-present with us. He is God who is the I AM.
The Lord was making the Sadducees come back to the basics of understanding that God is the God of the living and not of the dead.
_Exodus 3:3-6 Then Moses said, "I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn." (4) So when the LORD saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, "Moses, Moses!" And he said, "Here I am." (5) Then He said, "Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground." (6) Moreover He said, *"I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob."* And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God._
Moses knew that he was in the presence of God when God introduced Himself in the manner in which He did.
God is the one who was with our fathers and He is with us and will be with generations to come. He is not the God of the dead but of the living. Our fathers, who slept in Christ, are alive now, in the presence of God, walking amongst those who are worshipping Him.
When we consider the matter of the church, we need to be conscious that church is not just those with whom we fellowship now but church consists of those who have gone before and those who will come hereafter. The church is beyond time. The church consists of the living and not the dead.
Moses was to let the people of Israel know that God, who is God of the living, was the one who had appeared to him and had sent him to bring the people out of Egypt. _Exodus 4:5 “that they may believe that the LORD God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you."_
We respond to the issues of life from the perspective of belonging to the God of the living and not the God of the dead.
_Exodus 29:45-46 I will dwell among the children of Israel and will be their God. (46) And they shall know that I am the LORD their God, who brought them up out of the land of Egypt, that I may dwell among them. I am the LORD their God._
The eternal God, who was with our fathers, is with us and He will be with our generations to come.
The Lord established His covenant with Abraham and even at that time the generations to come were in the heart of God. _Genesis 17:7-8 *And I will establish My covenant between Me and you and your descendants after you in their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and your descendants after you*. (8) Also I give to you and your descendants after you the land in which you are a stranger, all the land of Canaan, as an everlasting possession; and I will be their God."_
The covenant of God continued with Isaac. _Genesis 26:24 And the LORD appeared to him the same night and said, "I am the God of your father Abraham; do not fear, for I am with you. I will bless you and multiply your descendants for My servant Abraham's sake."_
His covenant was with Jacob. _Genesis 28:13 And behold, the LORD stood above it and said: "I am the LORD God of Abraham your father and the God of Isaac; the land on which you lie I will give to you and your descendants._
God’s covenant continues with generations. _Jeremiah 31:33 But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and *I will be their God, and they shall be My people*._
_Hebrews 13:8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever._
*Thought to ponder*
```Are you living your life with the understanding of belonging to eternity?```
