Luke 20 41-47 Christ, the Son of David 03 Luke 20 41-44 Priests and kings for God
11Apr2021 - *Priests and kings for God* - _Luke 20:41-47_ - CHRIST, THE SON OF DAVID (3) – Bible reading: _Psalms 2:6-9_
The Lord is raising a question to get His disciples to consider the deeper things of God. The Lord longs for us to understand His eternal kingdom, where He reigns. He desires that we grasp this truth that we are emissaries and ambassadors here on earth, of His eternal kingdom. We are here to bring the kingdom values and principles of God into effect in the context, where the devil is ruling. This is the reason, we are in warfare right now.
*Luke 20:41-44 And He said to them, "How can they say that the Christ is the Son of David? (42) Now David himself said in the Book of Psalms: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, " SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, (43) TILL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL."' (44) Therefore David calls Him 'LORD'; how is He then his Son?"*
The question that Jesus is raising is that the religious leaders are calling Christ as the Son of David but David himself calls Christ as Lord, how then can Christ be the son of David?
_Psalms 110:1 A Psalm of David. The LORD said to my Lord, "Sit at My right hand, Till I make Your enemies Your footstool."_
_Psalms 110:2 The LORD shall send the rod of Your strength out of Zion. Rule in the midst of Your enemies!_
The rule of God will continue in Zion. There will always be enemies of the kingdom of God and the task of Zion, the task of the church, is to bring the rule of God in the place where there are enemies to the kingdom of God.
_Psalms 110:4-5 The LORD has sworn And will not relent, "You are a priest forever According to the *order of Melchizedek*." (5) The Lord is at *Your right hand*; He shall execute kings in the day of His wrath._
We see here that the rule of the kingdom of God is to be both priests as well as kings. There is no wall between the sacred and the secular. We have created this divide.
In all spheres of life, wherever God has placed us, *we are there to be both priests as well as kings*. It may be in Industry, private business, Governmental affairs, politics, science, technology, medicine, law, music, arts and every other field. These are areas that we, the church, have often made the mistake of considering as secular domains.
These are fields today, where the devil is having a free run and is able to execute his wicked plans through men and women, who are under his switch.
When we consider the term ‘kings’ we must know that the warfare is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual hosts of wickedness. The battle is in the heavenlies. Kings on earth are under the control of the evil one, who is manipulating them to do his will. This battle is with Satan, till the devil will be cast into the lake of fire.
_Psalms 2:6-9 “Yet I have set My King On My holy hill of Zion." (7) "I will declare the decree: The LORD has said to Me, 'You are My Son, Today I have begotten You. (8) Ask of Me, and I will give You The nations for Your inheritance, And the ends of the earth for Your possession. (9) You shall break them with a rod of iron; You shall dash them to pieces like a potter's vessel.' "_
As we see nations being governed, we recognize how the evil one is manipulating the kings of the world to do his bidding. Our task is to bind the powers of darkness. The Lord is calling the church to ask God for the nations. We have, with us, the authority to set free the nations from the grip of the evil one,
Our task is to bind the works of evil men, who are under the influence of the evil one. As we bind their work and their plans, we also need to pray that the nations will be given into the hands of those, who are free from the clutches of the evil one but will be led by the Holy Spirit to govern nations.
Where do we find those men and women, who are led by the Holy Spirit, who will provide leadership in all the spheres of life, which I have mentioned earlier?
These men and women are the ones, who will be raised in our homes. We must, therefore, pray that our homes will be the nurseries, where we will raise the Daniels, Josephs, Nehemiahs and Esthers who will occupy key places in all fields and will bring the kingdom rule of God in all of these spheres.
They will be men and women who will have the passion, the dream and the burden to see our nations set free from under the rule of the evil one. In all spheres of human life, they will be instruments of God to bring into effect, the rule of God.
Sadly, when we look at the way we raise our children in our Christian homes, we see that we are no different from the way the people of the world raise their children. We too give our children materialistic goals, we tell them to succeed, to do well in life, to be well settled and so forth. All of these have materialistic connotations and often it is weaved into their understanding that they must leave the shores of our developing nations and get settled in the western world.
When we parents have inculcated this materialistic desire into our children, we have destroyed God’s purpose in their lives. After our children have made their life choices, we say, with impunity, that it was our children, who made their choices in life and we only facilitated their plans. What answer will we give the Lord, who will judge our motives?
_Psalms45:2-7 You are fairer than the sons of men; Grace is poured upon Your lips; Therefore God has blessed You forever. (3) Gird Your sword upon Your thigh, O Mighty One, With Your glory and Your majesty. (4) And in Your majesty ride prosperously because of truth, humility, and righteousness; And Your right hand shall teach You awesome things. (5) Your arrows are sharp in the heart of the King's enemies; The peoples fall under You. (6) *Your throne, O God, is forever and ever*; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom. (7) You love righteousness and hate wickedness; Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You With the oil of gladness more than Your companions._
Now we can see why David called Him Lord, for David could see that he was anointed as king and his (David’s) kingship came under the rule of God.
*Thought to ponder*
Do you see your life to be both as a priest and as a king, for God?
