Sun 02 Jan 2022 – People of God’s praise - Luke 23:26-43 - THE CRUCIFIXION OF JESUS (20) - Bible reading: I Peter 2:9-10

“Lord Jesus, we thank You that You took our brokenness on Yourself so that we could be saved. This healing You gave us, both individually, as well as a community. We, as a community of healed people, are here to bring healing to a broken world through fellowship with Jesus. We thank You for Your plan. In Jesus name, we pray, Amen.”

Luke 23:36-38 The soldiers also mocked Him, coming and offering Him sour wine, (37) and saying, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself." (38) And an inscription also was written over Him in letters of Greek, Latin, and Hebrew: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS.

The mocking and deriding that happened to Jesus was, "If You are the King of the Jews, save Yourself .".

They were breaking the body of Jesus. The body of Jesus had to be broken so that He took our brokenness in His body, through which He released His healing to us.

We have seen that ‘saving man’ was the reason for which Jesus’ body was being broken on the cross.

This healing of Jesus, from His broken body on the cross, is what makes us be His children and people of His body, the church.

I Corinthians 11:24 and when He had given thanks, He broke it and said, " Take, eat; this is My body which is broken for you ; do this in remembrance of Me."

As a fellowship of God’s people, we consume the broken body of Jesus by faith, which makes us be His body, the church. It is in consuming His broken body that we experience salvation, which is an ongoing experience.

I Corinthians 10:16-17 The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? The bread which we break, is it not the communion of the body of Christ? (17) For we, though many, are one bread and one body; for we all partake of that one bread.

So, as we go through challenging encounters, we are partaking with Jesus in His brokenness. As we do so, we are being indwelt by His presence, which is His salvation.

This is the bond that binds us into oneness in the body of Christ, for we are undergoing God’s healing, on an everyday basis. We share this healing with one another in the body of Jesus.

The salvation experience for man is the indwelling of God . We, therefore, need to be conscious of this salvation that we have, which is the indwelling of God in us.

I Corinthians 3:16-17 Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you? (17) If anyone defiles the temple of God, God will destroy him. For the temple of God is holy, which temple you are.

We must, therefore, nurture the salvation experience, of the indwelling of God in us both individually as well as the body of Christ.

I Corinthians 6:19-20 Or do you not know that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have from God, and you are not your own? (20) For you were bought at a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God's.

The brokenness, which created barriers and divisions amongst us, are all taken away, in the broken body of Jesus on the cross.

Ephesians 2:14-22 For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle wall of separation, (15) having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making peace, (16) and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby putting to death the enmity. (17) And He came and preached peace to you who were afar off and to those who were near. (18) For through Him we both have access by one Spirit to the Father. (19) Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, (20) having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, (21) in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, (22) in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit.

As they broke Jesus’ body and mocked Him, He was bringing salvation for mankind.

I Peter 2:4-7 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious, (5) you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ. (6) Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, "BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHIEF CORNERSTONE, ELECT, PRECIOUS, AND HE WHO BELIEVES ON HIM WILL BY NO MEANS BE PUT TO SHAME." (7) Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, "THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE,"

What was the purpose of this building, of which Jesus is the chief cornerstone?

I Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light ; (10) who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.

We, as the church, are here to proclaim the praise of God, who brought us salvation by His brokenness.

Thought to ponder

2022 can be glorious as we continue on in the salvation of Jesus, as His church.
