Luke 20 41-47 Christ, the Son of David 05 Luke 20 42-43 Surrendering to the will of God
13Apr2021 - *Surrendering to the will of God* - _Luke 20:41-47_ - CHRIST, THE SON OF DAVID (5) – Bible reading: _Matthew 7:21-23_
We have been saying that Jesus reigns as the Son of David. His throne is a continuation of the Davidic line. David also saw the big picture of God, who has made Jesus be the King of His eternal kingdom. This is why David calls Jesus, Lord, for David’s rule came under the rule of God.
We too are part of the reign of David, with Jesus. We are co-rulers with Christ as priests and kings in all of our domains, wherever God has placed us. We are here to fulfil the reign of God in our specific areas. Therefore, the reign of David has never ceased
We will now focus our attention on the phrase, *TILL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL*
*Luke 20:42-43 Now David himself said in the Book of Psalms: 'THE LORD SAID TO MY LORD, " SIT AT MY RIGHT HAND, (43) TILL I MAKE YOUR ENEMIES YOUR FOOTSTOOL."*
We have repeatedly said that the enemies of God are the principalities, powers of darkness and hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places. Our battle is spiritual warfare against these forces.
_Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places._
We have also said that the warfare and the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but spiritual for they are *mighty in God* for pulling down the strongholds of the enemy.
_II Corinthians 10:3-4 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. (4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds,_
Let us turn our attention to the matter of the enemies of God, whom the Lord will make His footstool or He will punish these enemies.
We tend to think that the enemies are someone else but let us allow the searchlight of God to fall into our own hearts. The issue of becoming an enemy of God can spring up from our own hearts. Let us now see if we have become enemies of God.
We see this parable of the Nobleman in _Luke 19_. A nobleman went to a far country to receive a kingdom and return but His citizens hated Him and did not want this nobleman to reign over them
_Luke 19:12 Therefore He said: "A certain nobleman went into a far country to receive for himself a kingdom and to return. Luke 19:14 But his citizens hated him, and sent a delegation after him, saying, '*We will not have this man to reign over us*.'_
What did the citizens say about the reign of the Nobleman? “*We will not have this man to reign over us*.” When the Nobleman returned, what was the statement that He made about those citizens who had rejected His authority over them?
_Luke 19:27 But bring here those enemies of mine, *who did not want me to reign over them*, and slay them before me.' "_
The enemies were those who did not want God to reign over them. In other words, *they did not want to submit to the will of God*. We must be sure that kingdom and kingship happen in surrender and submission to the King. If our will is not submitted to the King then we do not belong to His kingdom. We become enemies of God and His kingdom
Many of us as believers will recoil and say, “I’m not an enemy of God. I love God and I want to serve God”. When we reject God’s will and do our own will, we become enemies of God.
Look at how we live our lives today. We make decisions and choices in life on the basis of what we can and cannot do, our influence, our past experiences, our resources, our opportunities and so forth. It is all dependent on us. We then say that we are believers and we trust in God. We do not. We actually trust ourselves.
Even in ministry, many of us do and get involved in different activities because we think that this is the best that we can do for the kingdom of God. We operate out of our own thinking and planning. We come up with initiatives and plans that are based on what we can do, our resources, our influence and other such factors. We are busy with all of these plans.
We also go to the extent of asking, “Hasn’t God placed all of these as resources in our hands to be used for the kingdom of God?”
Friends, let us be clear that when we do ministry out of our own understanding and not out of God’s will for us, then we become enemies of God. We must be in tune and in submission to God’s will, always. All of our resources are put into effect but under the will of God.
_Matthew 7:21-23 “Not everyone who says to Me, 'Lord, Lord,' shall enter the kingdom of heaven, *but he who does the will of My Father in heaven*. (22) Many will say to Me in that day, 'Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?' (23) *And then I will declare to them, 'I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!*'_
*Thought to ponder*
```The question that many Christians ask is, “What can I do for God?” This is a wrong question. The question to be asked is, “Lord, what would you have me to do?”```
