03 – 24Mar2022 – Pursue Shalom - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: John 20:19-21

“Thank You, Jesus, that You see within us if there is a desire for the godly perspective to life. Thank You for Your concern for us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

Luke 24:13-16 Now behold, two of them were traveling that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was seven miles from Jerusalem. (14) And they talked together of all these things which had happened. (15) So it was, while they conversed and reasoned, that Jesus Himself drew near and went with them. (16) But their eyes were restrained, so that they did not know Him.

We have been considering how we do not view life from His perspective. This was happening with these disciples, who had witnessed the life and words of Jesus, yet their perspectives were of the world, not of God.

Since they were not perceiving life from God’s perspective, the result was despair and gloom. They were not experiencing Shalom. Shalom is the legacy for His people. Shalom is not dependent on how circumstances develop around us. Shalom is based on Jesus, whom we know through the Scriptures. If anyone of us, as His people, is not experiencing Shalom, then it concludes that we are perceiving life from the flesh and world, not God.

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.

The great blessing that the Lord has given us is Shalom. The world and the things of the world cannot give us Shalom. The Shalom of God is what we must hunger for not the things of the world. Sadly, many of God’s children are coming to God for their problems to be solved, their needs met, their issues fixed, thinking, if only this particular crisis is overcome, then I will have Shalom. This is a delusion. The Shalom of God rides over all our challenges in life. This is our inheritance in Christ, who is the Prince of Shalom.

John 14:16-18 And I will pray the Father, and He will give you another Helper, that He may abide with you forever— (17) the Spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive, because it neither sees Him nor knows Him; but you know Him, for He dwells with you and will be in you. (18) I will not leave you orphans; I will come to you.

Jesus has gone to the Father and He has sent us His Holy Spirit, who is the Spirit of Shalom. He is always with us. Jesus had said that He will not leave us as orphans. The Holy Spirit reveals Jesus to us from the Scriptures and that is where our perspectives begin to change. Our perception of the ways of God leads us to Shalom.

John 16:33 These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

This was the message of the Shalom of God that Jesus shared with His disciples, after His resurrection. Jesus greeted His disciples with Shalom.

John 20:19-21 Then, the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood in the midst, and said to them, "Peace be with you." (20) When He had said this, He showed them His hands and His side. Then the disciples were glad when they saw the Lord. (21) So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

We are commissioned by God with His Shalom. What do we see in our world? We see sadness, turmoil, blackness and darkness. People have all the worldly goods but do they have the Shalom of God? Our commission is to be agents of God’s Shalom to a restless world.

If we as His people are not experiencing His Shalom, let us set this right, instantly, for we are being sent into our world to bring the Shalom of God.

Luke 10:5 But whatever house you enter, first say, 'Peace to this house.'

Wherever we go, we bring the Shalom of God into that situation. The Shalom of God comes from Jesus, whom the Holy Spirit reveals to us through His Scriptures.

Matthew 5:9 Blessed are the peacemakers, For they shall be called sons of God.

We are Shalom makers and creators in any situation in which God places us.

Our witnessing and sharing of the Goodnews are not contrived, but natural, for the world is in a state, desperately needing Shalom. It is into this predicament that we are sent as messengers, who bring the Shalom of God.

Romans 14:17-19 for the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. (18) For he who serves Christ in these things is acceptable to God and approved by men. (19) Therefore let us pursue the things which make for peace and the things by which one may edify another.

We are here to bring the Kingdom rule of Jesus into our world, for it is under the lordship of Christ that people experience Shalom.

Hebrews 12:14 Pursue peace with all people, and holiness, without which no one will see the Lord:

Thought to ponder

Shalom and holiness go hand in hand.
