10 – 31Mar2022 – Reprimanded - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: Hebrews 12:5-6

“Thank You, Jesus, that You are Father to us. You reprimand us. This is necessary that we are corrected by You. We give You all the glory and praise and in Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.”

We have been considering the perspectives of the disciples of all that had happened in the recent past. After they had shared, the Lord responded to them. We know that the Lord corrected their perspectives so that they will know Him from the Scriptures.

It took time for the disciples to have a change of perspective, but the Lord was patient with them. He is patient with us so that we will have a change of perspective.

How did the Lord intervene in the understanding of the disciples and make the correction?

Luke 24:25-27 Then He said to them, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart to believe in all that the prophets have spoken! (26) Ought not the Christ to have suffered these things and to enter into His glory?" (27) And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself.

The Lord took the disciples through an enormous study of the Scriptures. This was a Bible study that spanned the whole plan and purposes of God, as revealed in the Scriptures. The Lord revealed Himself through the Scriptures.

The Lord began the study by first reprimanding the disciples. He did not allow them to continue in their perspectives, but He dealt with it firmly. The Lord began by saying, "O foolish ones, and slow of heart…”

When people hold wrong perspectives, they must not be excused. We must counter wrong perspectives, decisively and immediately.

Hebrews 12:5-6 And you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you as to sons: "MY SON, DO NOT DESPISE THE CHASTENING OF THE LORD, NOR BE DISCOURAGED WHEN YOU ARE REBUKED BY HIM; (6) FOR WHOM THE LORD LOVES HE CHASTENS, AND SCOURGES EVERY SON WHOM HE RECEIVES."

We, as parents, reprimand and correct our children. We were reprimanded when we were children. The Lord does the same. This is because He loves us. We must be eager to receive the correction of the Lord, knowing that we are inclined to hold on to wrong perspectives in life.

Apostle Paul, writing to the Corinthians, is explaining how wrong perspectives need to be countered.

II Corinthians 10:4-6 For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, (5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (6) and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

Paul considers this matter of correcting wrong perspectives as spiritual warfare. He's showing us that the devil rides in, along with our wrong perspectives. The devil then dictates our life and choices. If we don’t deal with these wrong perspectives, firmly, the devil will derail our homes, families, churches, communities, societies and nations. Paul, therefore, affirms that those wrong perspectives must be cancelled out immediately.

When we listen to wrong thoughts, perspectives and ideas being discussed, we must not spare them but we must deal with these, immediately and firmly but in love.

Paul, writing to Timothy, is milder in his expression but the message is the same.

II Timothy 2:24-26 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient, (25) in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth, (26) and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.

People must repent when they are corrected for their wrong perceptions. What we see is that people are adamant and are not willing to repent. It is the word of God that corrects people of wrong perceptions.

Hebrews 4:12 For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart .

When we correct and reprimand people on the basis of Scripture, the Lord listens to these conversations. A book of remembrance is written, which will be opened on the day of judgement.

Malachi 3:16 Then those who feared the LORD spoke to one another, And the LORD listened and heard them ; So a book of remembrance was written before Him For those who fear the LORD And who meditate on His name.

Let us consider this powerful benediction.

Romans 16:25-27 Now to Him who is able to establish you according to my gospel and the preaching of Jesus Christ, according to the revelation of the mystery kept secret since the world began (26) but now made manifest, and by the prophetic Scriptures made known to all nations, according to the commandment of the everlasting God, for obedience to the faith— (27) to God, alone wise, be glory through Jesus Christ forever. Amen.

The Lord has made known to us His perspectives through prophetic Scriptures, so that we will obey the faith.

Thought to ponder

Are you open to the Lord for His correction of your wrong perceptions and are you correcting those around you, holding wrong perceptions?
