15 – 05Apr2022 – Knowing Jesus - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: Proverbs 1:28-30

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You see within us if we hunger for You. Lord, we pray that we will always have that deep desire for You. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen”.

The Lord completed the remarkable Bible study and it seemed as though He was going on further. The disciples, however, would not let Him go. They did not know Him as yet but they knew that there was something special with this exceptional Person and they insisted that He stay with them. The Lord immediately agreed.

Luke 24:28-29 Then they drew near to the village where they were going, and He indicated that He would have gone farther. (29) But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us, for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to stay with them.

The Lord longs to see within us if we desire Him. He instantly responds to us, when we hunger for Him.

Isaiah 55:6 Seek the LORD while He may be found, Call upon Him while He is near.

He is close to us but He wants us to call on Him and desire intimacy with Him. When we do so, He instantly responds to our heart's cry.

There are also warnings in the Scriptures, regarding this matter of desiring for God.

Proverbs 1:28-30 "Then they will call on me, but I will not answer; They will seek me diligently, but they will not find me. (29) Because they hated knowledge And did not choose the fear of the LORD, (30) They would have none of my counsel And despised my every rebuke.

When we hunger for God, it also implies that we put aside our own agenda in life. When we stay with our own knowledge of things and do not desire the knowledge of God, then the Lord will not answer us.

When we are not seeking the counsel of God but are bent upon our own counsel for the matters of life, then the Lord will not hear us. When we are not willing to be corrected by God, then again, the Lord will not respond.

We call ourselves, “Believers”, but our ways are our own. We are not willing to be rebuked by Him. Then we complain that the Lord is not hearing us.

John 7:33-34 Then Jesus said to them, "I shall be with you a little while longer, and then I go to Him who sent Me. (34) You will seek Me and not find Me, and where I am you cannot come."

The Jews were not able to understand, where would the Lord go and they would not find Him.

The Lord longs to see if we hunger for the fullness of His Holy Spirit. By our flesh, we cannot please God. We cannot come to intimacy with God, by our own effort. We can only come near Him in the fullness of the Holy Spirit.

John 7:37-38 On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. (38) He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water."

When people operate in their flesh, they will experience frustration, emptiness and several unanswered questions. They will say, “I have done everything but why am I still dry inside?” The answer is, that they are seeking God by the flesh and not by the Holy Spirit.

Hosea 6:4-7 “O Ephraim, what shall I do to you? O Judah, what shall I do to you? For your faithfulness is like a morning cloud, And like the early dew it goes away. (5) Therefore I have hewn them by the prophets, I have slain them by the words of My mouth; And your judgments are like light that goes forth. (6) For I desire mercy and not sacrifice, And the knowledge of God more than burnt offerings. (7) "But like men they transgressed the covenant; There they dealt treacherously with Me.

The Lord is concerned about our faithfulness. Our faithfulness to God is like a morning cloud and the early morning dew. The Lord desires that we be faithful to His covenant. This is when we will experience intimacy with God.

In Matthew 13, the Lord taught several parables. The disciples asked the Lord for an explanation for two of the parables.

Mark 4:10 But when He was alone, those around Him with the twelve asked Him about the parable.

This was the parable of the sower. The Lord, immediately, gave them an understanding of the parable.

Matthew 13:36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away and went into the house. And His disciples came to Him, saying, "Explain to us the parable of the tares of the field."

Again, the Lord taught them. Having taught several parables, the Lord asked the disciples a question.

Matthew 13:51 Jesus said to them, "Have you understood all these things?" They said to Him, "Yes, Lord."

The disciples answered that they understood the parables but if only they had requested an explanation of all the other parables, the Lord would have gladly taught them and we would have all benefitted.

The Lord desires to see in us if we are eager to know Him or are satisfied with our own understanding. The hunger for knowing God must be always kept burning in us.

Thought to ponder

Is the hunger for God, alive in you?
