Sun18Jul2021 - *Being in tune with the heart of God* - _Luke 22:14-20_ – PARTAKING OF THE LORD’S SUPPER (03) – Bible reading: _Philippians 2:6-11_

The suffering of Jesus on the cross and the glory of Jesus is the same. For the eternal blessing to become a reality, Jesus had to go through the shame and suffering of the cross.

He is longing to see if there is anyone among us who is ready to receive the anguish of His heart into our soul. Often, He is disappointed with us for our hearts are not in tune with Him.

_Luke 22:14-16 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. (15) Then He said to them, "*With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer*; (16) for I say to you, I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God."_

He is explaining to His disciples that with fervent desire, He desires to eat the Passover with them before He suffered.

He was longing to explain this great paradox to His disciples that for the eternal blessing to become a reality, He would have to go through the shame, suffering and death of the cross. He longed that they would be one with Him in this great turmoil that He was going through.

He has the same concern now that we would be one with Him to understand His pain for our world which He created with such great love, which is in chaos.

His heart is agonizing over the sadness in our world, which we have brought upon ourselves. He gave us a beautiful creation but we rejected God, yielded to the devil and look at where we are today.

Man is not considering that he needs to return back to His creator and be submitted to Him, in order to be healed but instead we blame God for our suffering.

We, His disciples, do not seem to be anywhere close to accepting His pain into our hearts. We prefer to remain in the periphery, we favour our lukewarmness, we shy away from being committed, we choose a relationship with God, which will give us what we want, nothing more.

Yet, He loves us and is patient with us.

_Mark 10:32-34 Now they were on the road, going up to Jerusalem, and Jesus was going before them; and *they were amazed. And as they followed they were afraid. Then He took the twelve aside again and began to tell them the things that would happen to Him*: (33) “Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death and deliver Him to the Gentiles; (34) and they will mock Him, and scourge Him, and spit on Him, and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again."_

The disciples knew that His heart was heavy and something momentous was to take place but they were afraid to ask Jesus.

It was at the Lord’s supper that He took the disciples into the depth of what was to take place.

Jesus was always focused on the cross. _John 4:34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work. Luke 12:50 But I have a baptism to be baptized with, and how distressed I am till it is accomplished!_

The thoughts that were on the Lord’s heart was that of anguish. He knew that He had to go the Jerusalem and there be crucified and He knew that this was the Father’s will for Him. He loved His disciples and He longed for them to appreciate the hugeness of what was taking place. We can to some extent understand the weight of the matters that were on the Lord’s heart.

His heart is heavy today, with the deep burden of our world. We must sit at His feet to understand His pain. It is only when we understand the pain of God’s heart that we will be propelled into the ministry of God that He wishes to entrust to us.

*Trying to do ministry, without being driven by the pain of God’s heart, is frivolous*.

_John 12:27-33 “Now *My soul is troubled*, and what shall I say? 'Father, save Me from this hour'? But for this purpose I came to this hour. (28) Father, glorify Your name." Then a voice came from heaven, saying, "I have both glorified it and will glorify it again." (29) Therefore the people who stood by and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, "An angel has spoken to Him." (30) Jesus answered and said, "*This voice did not come because of Me, but for your sake*. (31) Now is the judgment of this world; now the ruler of this world will be cast out. (32) And I, if I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all peoples to Myself." (33) This He said, signifying by what death He would die._

As we read the narrative it seems as though the disciples were too overwhelmed by it all and they were struggling to comprehend what the Lord was sharing with them, though they were the ones who were closest to Him.

After these 2000 years, we, His disciples, seem to be hardly different from the disciples of Jesus’ time.

_Philippians 2:6-11 who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, (7) but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (8) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. (9) Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, (10) that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, (11) and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, *to the glory of God the Father*._

*Thought to ponder*

```Will we fall at His feet longing to be more deeply united with Him?```
