17 โ€“ 07Apr2022 โ€“ Eyes opened to know Jesus - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: Colossians 1:16-17

โ€œThank You, Lord Jesus, that when we are able to see You, everything changes from within us. Thank You, Jesus. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.โ€

As Jesus broke bread with the two disciples, the miracle took place. Their eyes were opened. They knew that He was the God of heaven and earth and all things were held together in Him. They could now see the Truth of the Scripture study.

Luke 24:30-31 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. (31) Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

Friends, this is what must happen to us. We must see and know Jesus from the Scriptures.

Colossians 1:16-17 For by Him all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Him and for Him. (17) And He is before all things, and in Him all things consist.

As we begin to see Jesus, then everything else begins to have its actual worth in comparison to Jesus. All things fade away in comparison to Jesus.

To many of us, the other things of life, seem so large and of high value. Though we mouth the words of recognizing God, we are not seeing Jesus, as the two disciples saw Jesus, that evening.

Isaiah 40:12-15 Who has measured the waters in the hollow of His hand, Measured heaven with a span And calculated the dust of the earth in a measure? Weighed the mountains in scales And the hills in a balance? (13) Who has directed the Spirit of the LORD, Or as His counselor has taught Him? (14) With whom did He take counsel, and who instructed Him, And taught Him in the path of justice? Who taught Him knowledge, And showed Him the way of understanding? (15) Behold, the nations are as a drop in a bucket, And are counted as the small dust on the scales; Look, He lifts up the isles as a very little thing.

Friends, this passage gives us the perspective of Jesus in comparison to those things that we consider big, strong and mighty. It is only when we see Jesus for who He is that our life will begin to soar for His glory. If we donโ€™t see Jesus for who He is, we will remain earthbound.

Here is an example of the servant of the prophet, whose eyes needed to be opened to see the reality of God.

II Kings 6:15-17 And when the servant of the man of God arose early and went out, there was an army, surrounding the city with horses and chariots. And his servant said to him, "Alas, my master! What shall we do?" (16) So he answered, "Do not fear, for those who are with us are more than those who are with them." (17) And Elisha prayed, and said, " LORD, I pray, open his eyes that he may see. Then the LORD opened the eyes of the young man, and he saw. And behold, the mountain was full of horses and chariots of fire all around Elisha.

We must have the same heart cry to God. โ€œ Lord, open my eyes that I may see You and not my circumstances, crises, challenges and hurdles .โ€

Psalms 119:18 Open my eyes, that I may see Wondrous things from Your law.

It is from the Scriptures that we see Jesus. This was the reason for the study of the Scriptures that took place on that journey. The Scripture study had prepared them. When the Lord gave them a glimpse of Himself, as He broke the bread, the eyes of disciples opened and they knew Him.

Isaiah 42:6-7 "I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, (7) To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.

Why was the Lord opening the eyes of the disciples? What is the Lord expecting from each of us?

He wants our eyes to be opened so that we go out there into the world and open the eyes of many, who are blinded and still in darkness. This is the task of the church โ€“ TO OPEN BLIND EYES.

This is the message of Jesus.

Luke 4:18-21 "THE SPIRIT OF THE LORD IS UPON ME, BECAUSE HE HAS ANOINTED ME TO PREACH THE GOSPEL TO THE POOR; HE HAS SENT ME TO HEAL THE BROKENHEARTED, TO PROCLAIM LIBERTY TO THE CAPTIVES AND RECOVERY OF SIGHT TO THE BLIND, TO SET AT LIBERTY THOSE WHO ARE OPPRESSED; (19) TO PROCLAIM THE ACCEPTABLE YEAR OF THE LORD." (20) Then He closed the book, and gave it back to the attendant and sat down. And the eyes of all who were in the synagogue were fixed on Him. (21) And He began to say to them, "Today this Scripture is fulfilled in your hearing."

Jesus made it clear that He was here to open the eyes of people so that people will know Him.

John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

Our task is to open the eyes of people so that they will know Jesus.

Thought to ponder

Are you seeing Jesus and are you enabling others to see Jesus?
