Mon19Jul2021 - *Being prepared to reign with Jesus* - _Luke 22:14-20_ – PARTAKING OF THE LORD’S SUPPER (04) – Bible reading: _Luke 14:15-24_
The Lord longs to reveal to us His plans and purposes so that our eyes and our minds will be set upon His agenda and not on ours. We are called to be co-rulers with Christ and the reign with Christ has already begun, here on earth, and will continue on in eternity, where we will experience the fullness of His kingdom.
Our entire perspective of life needs to change and we are to be one with the Lord in His plans and purposes.
_Luke 22:14-16 When the hour had come, He sat down, and the twelve apostles with Him. (15) Then He said to them, "With fervent desire I have desired to eat this Passover with you before I suffer; (16) for I say to you, *I will no longer eat of it until it is fulfilled in the kingdom of God*."_
_Luke 22:18 for I say to you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes."_
For our Lord, this was His last meal before the trial, the judgement, His crucifixion and His death. This statement that He would no longer eat and drink until His resurrection and the coming of His kingdom is factual.
Nevertheless, was the Lord just talking of not eating and drinking till His Kingdom or was there more to what our Lord is saying here?
There was surely much more to what our Lord is telling us here.
*The Lord is revealing to us that this last supper or the Lord’s supper is a curtain-raiser to the feasting around His table in His kingdom, where we will be reigning alongside Him*.
_Luke 22:28-30 “But you are those who have continued with Me in My trials. (29) And *I bestow upon you a kingdom*, just as My Father bestowed one upon Me, (30) that *you may eat and drink at My table in My kingdom, and sit on thrones* judging the twelve tribes of Israel."_
The Lord is showing us that He is preparing a meal and a feast for us in His kingdom. Will this just be feasting at His table? No. This is about the position and responsibility that we will have with Him in His kingdom as co-rulers with Christ. We will reign with Him for all of eternity.
_Daniel 7:18 But *the saints of the Most High shall receive the kingdom, and possess the kingdom forever, even forever and ever*.'_
*The Lord’s supper is an opportunity for us to understand that we will participate with Him at His table in His eternal kingdom, where we will co-rule with Him*.
_Luke 14:15 Now when one of those who sat at the table with Him heard these things, he said to Him, "*Blessed is he who shall eat bread in the kingdom of God*!"_
Jesus was invited to eat bread at the home of the ruler of Pharisees _(Luke 14:1)_ It was at this meal that one who sat at the meal with Him made this observation that we read in _Luke 14:15_
In response to this man’s observation, Jesus gave this parable to this man but also for all the others to hear of a certain man, who gave a great supper and invited many.
People gave excuses that they will not be able to come. Then the master's servant went out and brought in the poor, maimed, lame and blind. He went to the highways and hedges and compelled people to come into the feast. Whereas, those who were invited, did not partake of His supper. _(Luke 14:16-24)_
The Jews were conversant of the eternal kingdom of the Messiah. They were looking forward to the Messiah setting up His eternal reign. They knew that at the feast in His kingdom, those invited would be those who would reign with the Messiah.
For us Gentile Christians, it is difficult to conceptualise the matter of us reigning with Jesus for eternity. This reign of Jesus has already begun here on earth, which is what Jesus inaugurated.
We are here on earth as kingdom people, who are bringing in the rule of God into a world, where the devil is ruling.
There will come a time when we will be at the feasting table with the Lord, where we will sit as co-rulers with Christ at His table. There are many who do not understand that we are people, who are being prepared for the eternal kingdom, where we will reign with Jesus.
Our mind is wrapped up with the issues and matters of this present world, which is passing away, but we are not actively preparing to participate in the feast of the Lamb, where we will reign with Jesus in His eternal kingdom.
_Colossians 3:1-3 If then you were raised with Christ, *seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God*. (2) *Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth*. (3) For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God._
Sadly, the majority of us, have still set our minds on the earth and not on things above. This is why the matter of us preparing to feast at His table and be co-rulers with Christ is a blur to us.
*The Lord’s supper is a preparation for the feast at His eternal kingdom, where we will reign with Him*.
*Thought to ponder*
```The ones who will eat bread in His kingdom, with the King, are blessed.```
