18 โ€“ 08Apr2022 โ€“ Opening the eyes of the blind - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: Acts 26:17-18

โ€œThank you, Lord Jesus, that You open our eyes and You are also sending us out into the world, to open the eyes of many and bring them from darkness to light. We commit ourselves into Your loving hands. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.โ€

As Jesus broke bread with the two disciples, their eyes were opened and they knew Him.

Luke 24:30-31 Now it came to pass, as He sat at the table with them, that He took bread, blessed and broke it, and gave it to them. (31) Then their eyes were opened and they knew Him; and He vanished from their sight.

We have seen that the Lord opens our eyes and He sends us out to open the eyes of many, who are still in the state of blindness.

John 20:21 So Jesus said to them again, "Peace to you! As the Father has sent Me, I also send you."

Apostle Paul and so many others, down through the age, have been opening the eyes of people and bringing people from darkness to light.

Acts 26:17-18 I will deliver you from the Jewish people, as well as from the Gentiles, to whom I now send you, (18) to open their eyes, in order to turn them from darkness to light, and from the power of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me.'

The Lord sends us out to specific audiences to open their eyes. We are here in this world on an assignment from God. Paul was assigned to the Gentiles.

Similarly, when God places us in a cultural setting, language or professional group and into a specific context with its peculiar challenges, let us not run away from that place and situation, seeking comfortable and greener pastures.

Our choices in life, of where to live, study, work, earn our living, must be based on no other factor, except one. Who is the target audience for whom the Lord has brought us into the world, whose eyes need to be opened?

We are in a culture/context because the Lord has placed us there to open blind eyes. We have been brought into the world with specific, in-built potentials because those capacities are the bridge by which we connect with the people of that particular target group, and bring them from blindness to sight.

Psalms 146:5-8 Happy is he who has the God of Jacob for his help, Whose hope is in the LORD his God, (6) Who made heaven and earth, The sea, and all that is in them; Who keeps truth forever, (7) Who executes justice for the oppressed, Who gives food to the hungry. The LORD gives freedom to the prisoners. (8) The LORD opens the eyes of the blind; The LORD raises those who are bowed down; The LORD loves the righteous.

This is the substance of the message that we share with people. We cannot open the eyes of people but as they encounter God, their eyes are opened.

Isaiah 35:4-6 Say to those who are fearful-hearted, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you." (5) Then the eyes of the blind shall be opened, And the ears of the deaf shall be unstopped. (6) Then the lame shall leap like a deer, And the tongue of the dumb sing. For waters shall burst forth in the wilderness, And streams in the desert.

We know, from our own experience, how the Lord has healed us. This is the confidence with which we go out into the world and we open the eyes of the blind.

Isaiah 29:18-19 In that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, And the eyes of the blind shall see out of obscurity and out of darkness. (19) The humble also shall increase their joy in the LORD, And the poor among men shall rejoice In the Holy One of Israel.

Our battle, in opening the eyes of the people, is in the spiritual realm.

Ephesians 6:12 For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.

As we work with people, we must bind and push out all the activities of the evil one, under the authority of Jesus.

II Corinthians 10:3-6 For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. (4) For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, (5) casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, (6) and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.

It is the devil, who is keeping the eyes of people, blinded.

II Corinthians 4:4 whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them.

We must resist the enemy, in the name of Jesus, to take his hands off people, so that people will be free to respond to Jesus.

Thought to ponder

Are you engaged in the battle of opening the eyes of people?
