21 – 11Apr2022 – God’s Word is fire in our hearts - Luke 24:13-35 - JESUS IS KNOWN IN THE SCRIPTURES - Bible reading: _Psalms 19:7-11

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that Your Word burns from within our hearts. We cannot keep quiet but we have to share Your Word with our people and into the cultural milieu, in which we live. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

The hearts of these two disciples were stirred and they shared this powerful experience with one another. They shared with one another, the impact of the Lord, upon them.

Luke 24:32 And they said to one another, "Did not our heart burn within us while He talked with us on the road, and while He opened the Scriptures to us?"

We continue to look at how the Word of God impacts us.

Psalms 19:7-11The law of the LORD is perfect, converting the soul; The testimony of the LORD is sure, making wise the simple; (8) The statutes of the LORD are right, rejoicing the heart; The commandment of the LORD is pure, enlightening the eyes; (9) The fear of the LORD is clean, enduring forever; The judgments of the LORD are true and righteous altogether. (10) More to be desired are they than gold, Yea, than much fine gold; Sweeter also than honey and the honeycomb. (11) Moreover by them Your servant is warned, And in keeping them there is great reward.

God's Word has been such a great blessing for us. We live in a world, where, compromising with the standards of the world, is the norm. God’s Word, warns us and enlightens our eyes. In keeping with God’s Word, there is a great reward.

Jeremiah 15:16 Your words were found, and I ate them, And Your word was to me the joy and rejoicing of my heart; For I am called by Your name, O LORD God of hosts.

We are people who are called by the name of Jesus. What makes us unique? We are people of the Book. We search His Word and we eat His Word. We take God’s Word into our spirits and into our hearts and lives. Though we live in dreadful and heart-breaking times, the keeping of God’s Word brings joy and rejoicing to our hearts.

Jeremiah 20:8-9 For when I spoke, I cried out; I shouted, "Violence and plunder!" Because the word of the LORD was made to me A reproach and a derision daily. (9) Then I said, "I will not make mention of Him, Nor speak anymore in His name." But His word was in my heart like a burning fire Shut up in my bones; I was weary of holding it back, And I could not.

The Word of God changes us and the Word of God also makes us be prophetical to our times. We see the reality of our circumstances. There is violence and plunder that is going on. Are we to keep quiet in these times, in which we live? No, we cannot and we will not. God’s Word is like a fire, shut up in our bones, and we will not hold back.

The Church has to be prophetical and speak God’s Word into our socio-political-cultural contexts. This is the reason why we are the Salt and Light, of our world.

Psalms 39:3-7 My heart was hot within me; While I was musing, the fire burned. Then I spoke with my tongue: (4) "LORD, make me to know my end, And what is the measure of my days, That I may know how frail I am. (5) Indeed, You have made my days as handbreadths, And my age is as nothing before You; Certainly every man at his best state is but vapor. Selah (6) Surely every man walks about like a shadow; Surely they busy themselves in vain; He heaps up riches, And does not know who will gather them. (7) "And now, Lord, what do I wait for? My hope is in You.

This is the message that we cannot hold back but we must share with the people around us. Life is extremely short. It is like a handbreadth and a vapour. Mankind must be warned that each one must give an account of his life, to His Maker. Therefore, Man must seek to walk in the fear of God.

This was Apostle Paul’s witness.

I Corinthians 9:16 For if I preach the gospel, I have nothing to boast of, for necessity is laid upon me; yes, woe is me if I do not preach the gospel!

God’s Word is Spirit and it is Life.

John 6:63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.

At the very end of his life, Apostle Paul was sharing God’s Word.

God’s Word was about His kingdom.

Acts 28:23 So when they had appointed him a day, many came to him at his lodging, to whom he explained and solemnly testified of the kingdom of God, persuading them concerning Jesus from both the Law of Moses and the Prophets, from morning till evening.

Paul could not keep the Word of God to himself. It was a fire that burned in his heart and he shared God’s Word, till the very end of his life. The Word of God that he shared was of the kingdom of God.

Thought to ponder

If the fire in your heart, for God and His Word, is burning low, then repent and seek to be lighted up, once again, with His burning fire.
