Luke 11 29-32 The sign of Jonah Sign of Jonah 3
*Trust and Obey* _Luke 11:29-32_
The crowds were thickly gathered together to Jesus and instead of comforting, consoling and pacifying them, He called them an evil generation. Why was Jesus being so stern and unsympathetic with the crowd? This seems to go against all the usual norms of people skills.
God longs for us to have worshipful love relationship with Him _Hebrews 11:28. Psalm 2:11 Serve the LORD with fear, And rejoice with trembling._ To have a worshipful love relationship with God, two fundamental principles need to be in place, in our lives. These were the two values that were not present in the lives of the people, for which He called them an evil and in other places, “wicked and adulterous generation”. _Matthew 12:38-39._
What are these two fundamentals? They are, Trust and Obey, for there is no other way to be happy in Jesus but to trust and to obey Him.
People came to Jesus, asking Him what they need to do, to do the works of God. Our Lord’s answer to them was that they believe in Him, whom God had sent _ John 6:28-29. We can see here, friends, how much more straightforward it is, to do works but to trust God, becomes difficult._ Why is this so? This is because the opposite of faith is not disbelief but it is sight _II Corinthians 5:7/Hebrews 11:1/II Corinthians 4:18/I Peter 1:6-9. We call ourselves believers but if we were to be ruthless with ourselves, we will be shocked to see that we live more by sight than by faith. God knows, whether we truly trust Him or not and that is why His anguish is, when He returns, will He find faith on the earth _Luke 18:8._ We demonstrate our worshipful love for God by trusting Him, like a little child, which is also the reason why, if we are not converted and become as little children, we will by no means enter the kingdom of heaven _Matthew 18:3._
The second fundamental that needs to be in place, in our lives, is obedience to God. We demonstrate love for God by obeying Him, in all circumstances _John 14:15,21,23,24,15:10,I John 5:3._
Our obedience is not just outward, as a performance before people but our obedience to God is of the heart. It is the heart that controls the issues of life _Proverbs 4:23._ The human personality is like an iceberg, where the major part is submerged and below the surface. God sees the heart _I Samuel 16:7/I Chronicles 28:9._
It is because there was no trust and obedience to God that our Lord called the people, an evil generation. _Would He call us anything different?_ Yes, He loves us but God’s love demands that we respond back to love and worship Him by trusting and obeying Him or is our worship of Him, mere words _Isaiah 29:13._
*Thought to ponder*
```Change my heart, O God …```
