Luke 11 29-32 The sign of Jonah Sign of Jonah 4
*The cross and the resurrection of Jesus* _Luke 11:29-32_
The Lord emphasized that the only sign that will be given to this evil generation is the sign of Jonah. The sign of Jonah is Jesus being crucified, buried and to rise again the third day _Matthew 12:38-40._
_We too need to be warned that if we were to come to Jesus, except to know Him and Jesus crucified, then we are on very dangerous ground._ If we come to Jesus only for blessings, healings, miracles and wonders but we do not come to Him to be identified with Him at the cross, burial and resurrection, we would be no different from the generation of Jesus’ time.
We see all kinds of teaching and ministries spreading rapidly across the globe. Each emphasises different aspects of Christ but the Lord Himself made it clear to us that it is the cross, the burial and the resurrection, is the only sign that we need to see in Christ.
The Lord wanted His disciples to be clear that the cross, burial and resurrection was what He had come for, to earth, so that man could be reconciled back to God. He made this known to them again and again _Matthew 16:21/20:17-19,_ They had different expectations from Jesus. The disciples did not understand His purpose, till he opened their understanding, after He rose from the dead _Luke 24:45-47._
For Paul this was the gospel message, that he was not ashamed of, which was to talk of the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, again and again. This was his boast _Galatians 6:14._ He was determined not to know anything amongst the people, except Jesus and Him crucified. He explains the death, burial and resurrection of Christ as the way of how all of us are delivered from the flesh and live victoriously in the Spirit _Romans 6:4-6._
*Thought to ponder*
```Have we wandered from the core of the gospel message?```
