LUKE 19 11-27 TO EVERYONE WHO HAS, WILL BE GIVEN 20 Warning against empty words
28Dec2020 - *Warning against empty words* - _Luke 19:11-27_ - TO EVERYONE WHO HAS, WILL BE GIVEN 20 – Bible reading: _Matthew 12:36-37_
The third servant was giving an excuse for his poor or non-performance with the mina that was invested in him.
_Luke 19:20-21 “Then another came, saying, 'Master, here is your mina, which I have kept put away in a handkerchief. (21) For I feared you, because you are an austere man. You collect what you did not deposit, and reap what you did not sow.'_
The Lord was angry with the answer that this servant gave for himself.
_Luke 19:22-23 And he said to him, 'Out of your own mouth I will judge you, you wicked servant. You knew that I was an austere man, collecting what I did not deposit and reaping what I did not sow. (23) Why then did you not put my money in the bank, that at my coming I might have collected it with interest?'_
Let us go over our purpose statement before we consider the anger of the Master towards the third servant.
_We are citizens of the kingdom of God here on earth, redeemed and reconciled back to God, through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. This world is being driven by the evil one, through man, who has become his prisoner._
_We, citizens of the kingdom of God, live and work, fulfilling all the elements of the creation or cultural mandate, in the image of God, which is to give of Himself. We use the capital that God has invested us with, in the enablement and wisdom of the Holy Spirit._
_The kingdom of God has already begun, which will come into its full effect when the Messiah returns. As we prayerfully await His return, we reach out to an audience that is rejecting God but with boldness and love._
_In the eternal kingdom of Jesus, we will continue with the theme of having dominion, which was our theme here on earth. We will be assigned roles and responsibilities, depending upon the results that we produced here on earth, with the capital that God has invested in each of us._
Why did the Lord call him as wicked?
This man thought that his words will win him favour with the Master. He said that he feared the Master but his actions prove that he did not fear Him.
Does this not apply so much with us in the way we relate with God? We expect that our fancy and superfluous words will be attractive and the Master will be pleased towards us. Whereas our life conveys an entirely different message of casualness towards God.
The Lord sees through our hypocrisy and He is angered with us.
_Matthew 12:36-37 But I say to you that for every idle word men may speak, they will give account of it in the day of judgment. (37)
For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned."_
The Lord sees through our pretence. _Isaiah 29:13 Therefore the Lord said: "Inasmuch as these people draw near with their mouths And honour Me with their lips, But have removed their hearts far from Me, And their fear toward Me is taught by the commandment of men,_
James comes down strongly on those who claim to have a faith relationship with Jesus but do not demonstrate their faith in God, through their changed behaviour.
_James 2:24-26 You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only. (25) Likewise, was not Rahab the harlot also justified by works when she received the messengers and sent them out another way? (26) For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also._
We dare not treat God with frivolity and shallowness. _Hebrews 12:28-29 Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. (29) For our God is a consuming fire._
_Ephesians 5:6 Let no one deceive you with empty words, for because of these things the wrath of God comes upon the sons of disobedience._
God desires that we walk before Him in humility. _Micah 6:8 He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?_
*Thought to ponder*
```Will we repent of our casual approach with God and truly bow our lives to Him?```
