Luke 11 29-32 The sign of Jonah Sign of Jonah 7
*Repentance leads to zeal for God* _Luke 11:29-32_
Repentance is a fact needed for man to be rightly related with God.
People, everywhere, do not want to talk of repentance. We will talk of everything else but repentance before God. Man does not want to acknowledge his sin before God. We do not want to talk of sin, either. Sin and repentance are not popular thoughts. We do not want to come under the authority of God, over us, but we wish to be independent from God and come to God, on our terms.
The people of Nineveh repented at the preaching of Jonah and God relented from the disaster that He intended to bring on that city _Jonah 3:4-10._ The wicked king Ahab repented and the Lord God forgave his sin and did not bring the calamity that He had intended, on his house _I Kings 21:27-29._
The Lord is delaying His coming again because He does not want anyone to perish by going to the everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels _Matthew 25:41/Revelation 20:15._ He is delaying, so that all should come to repentance _II Peter 3:9._
The world is proudly and determinedly, going on, in its evil ways, without repenting and acknowledging God. Everything about God is known to man and man cannot give an excuse that he does not know, of the righteous judgment of God _Romans 1:18-20, 32._ God is warning man that he should repent and turn back to Him. God is giving man a very long rope of goodness, forbearance and longsuffering so that man will repent and turn to Him _Romans 2:2-4._
Yet, man is resolute to go on, in his impenitent ways, storing up for himself, wrath in the day of the wrath of God _Romans 2:5-6._
Repentance is also needed for the church of Jesus Christ. Our Lord corrects us, so that we will bear more fruit for His kingdom. We need to be always open for His correction and being open for His correction involves a penitent and a repentant heart before God, acknowledging our sin and seeking His healing upon us II Corinthians 7:9-10._ For godly sorrow produces in us repentance, leading to salvation or healing.
What is the healing that is produced in us, the church because of repentance that comes on us because of godly sorrow, resulting from God’s correction? The healing of God produces in us diligence, clearing of ourselves, indignation, fear of God, vehement desire, zeal, and vindication! _II Corinthians 7:11._
*Thought to ponder*
```Our self esteem comes only from our standing in Christ, never from ourselves.```
