Luke 11 33-36 Light of our world Light of our world 2
*Being His lights in our world* _Luke 11:33-36_
We are commissioned by Jesus to be the light of the world _Matthew 5:14-16._ This is indeed a colossal responsibility that we will not be able to carry on our shoulders. We can only be the light of world, as we rest in the enablement of His Holy Spirit.
We are children of light and of the day. We are not of the night or of darkness _I Thessalonians 5:5._ People will not stumble if we, as His disciples, are truly the light of the world and children of the day. The opposite is indeed frightening, if we are not being the lights of the world _John 11:9._
In Jesus is life and He is the light of men _John 1:4._ He who has the Son of God has life and he who does not have the Son of God, does not have life _I John 5:12._
It is in believing and in following Jesus _John 12:36/8:12_ that we will not walk in darkness but become the light of our world. This requires that we take our free will and surrender/submit it to God’s will, intentionally and willingly, continuously. This is not an occasional exercise but it is an uninterrupted one. Again, this is not done in our own strength but by His Holy Spirit, by His grace. God’s grace is His divine enablement, in His Holy Spirit.
What was God’s plan and purpose for us? He has called us in order to keep us as a covenant to the people and as a light to the people of the world _Isaiah 42:6/Philippians 2:15-16._ Paul’s ministry was to ensure that people, who have come to Christ, must shine as lights in the world.
What is God’s concern and the burden of His heart? God longs to open blind eyes, to bring out prisoners from the prison house _Isaiah 42:7._ This is what fruit bearing is all about and this is also what, being the light of the world, is all about.
We are specially chosen for this task because we were once darkness, but now we are light in the Lord _Ephesians 5:8._ We can help people come to the light of Jesus because we have firsthand experience of moving from darkness to light.
The light that is in us is Jesus in us _II Corinthians 4:6._ The light of Jesus in our hearts is a glorious light.
*Thought to ponder*
```II Corinthians 3:18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.```
