_Luke 16:18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery. Matthew 19:9 And I say to you, whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced commits adultery."_

Sexual faithfulness or devotion is the non-negotiable element of marriage but this is where the devil has played havoc from the beginning of time. Sexuality has to be brought back and placed exclusively within the marriage relationship, however advanced we may consider ourselves to be in our culture and world-view

God hates divorce, for, in the heart of God, divorce is a violent disruption of society. Devotion to each other in the husband and his wife relationship, in the matter of sexuality, is bundled with marriage and divorce. _Malachi 2:15-16 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. (16) "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the LORD of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously."_

Why has God placed such great significance to sexuality within the husband and his wife relationship? God is married to His people the church and He is devoted to her. He longs for her, the church, with all of the heart, soul, mind and strength to be devoted to Him. _Jeremiah 3:8-10 Then I saw that for all the causes for which backsliding Israel had committed adultery, I had put her away and given her a certificate of divorce; yet her treacherous sister Judah did not fear, but went and played the harlot also. (9) So it came to pass, through her casual harlotry, that she defiled the land and committed adultery with stones and trees. (10) And yet for all this her treacherous sister Judah has not turned to Me with her whole heart, but in pretense," says the LORD._

Yet, God is longing for His bride to come back to Him. _Jeremiah 3:14-15 “Return, O backsliding children," says the LORD; "for I am married to you. I will take you, one from a city and two from a family, and I will bring you to Zion. (15) And I will give you shepherds according to My heart, who will feed you with knowledge and understanding._

However treacherous His wife has been to Him, God still longs to have her back, exclusively for Himself. This is why the Lord has given us the sexual experience exclusively within the husband and his wife relationship and he wants us to nurture this sexual experience with great care, tenderness and protection. _I Corinthians 7:2-5 Nevertheless, because of sexual immorality, let each man have his own wife, and let each woman have her own husband. (3) Let the husband render to his wife the affection due her, and likewise also the wife to her husband. (4) The wife does not have authority over her own body, but the husband does. And likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. (5) Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

*Thought to ponder*

```Do we see the parallel between both relationship? Do we see the seriousness of the aspect of devotion in both relationships?```
