09Jan2021 - *That we may believe* - Luke 19:28-40 - BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD 2 – Bible reading: _John 12:12-16_

There are several reasons for the centrality of the cross for the reign of Christ. We will examine some of these key perceptions in this study.

The triumphal entry was a fulfilment of prophesy so that all would believe that He is the King. It is the King who has come in the name of the Lord.

_John 12:12-16 The next day a great multitude that had come to the feast, when they heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, (13) took branches of palm trees and went out to meet Him, and cried out: "Hosanna! 'BLESSED IS HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' The King of Israel!" (14) Then Jesus, when He had found a young donkey, sat on it; as it is written: (15) “FEAR NOT, DAUGHTER OF ZION; BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING, SITTING ON A DONKEY'S COLT." (16) His disciples did not understand these things at first; but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him._

The Old Testament prophesy was about Jesus entering into Jerusalem as the King. _Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, *your King is coming to you*; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey_

The Lord longed for His disciples to understand what was happening, at His triumphal entry and subsequently as He went to the cross. In understanding, they would believe in Him as the King.

_John 13:19 Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He._

This was the doubt that the Lord knew was in the mind of the people, if He was the coming one, for whom they had been waiting for, who would come and set up His kingdom.

The disciples of John the Baptist expressed this doubt.

_Matthew 11:3 and said to Him, "Are You the Coming One, or do we look for another?"_

There were several prophesies in the Old Testament of the coming King. One such prophecy is from the prophecy of Jeremiah.

_Jeremiah 23:5-6 “Behold, the days are coming," says the LORD, "That I will raise to David a Branch of righteousness; *A King shall reign and prosper*, And execute judgment and righteousness in the earth. (6) In His days Judah will be saved, And Israel will dwell safely; Now this is His name by which He will be called: THE LORD OUR RIGHTEOUSNESS._

The Lord longed that the people would believe that He is the one for whom they had been waiting for.

_John 14:28-29 You have heard Me say to you, 'I am going away and coming back to you.' If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, 'I am going to the Father,' for My Father is greater than I. (29) "And now I have told you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe._

Belief is not just giving intellectual concurrence to Jesus. Belief is about entrusting our lives to Jesus as the King. If we say we believe in Jesus as the King, this would mean that we are entirely surrendered and cast upon Him. We are no more controlling and dictating the choices and decisions of our life. If we say we believe in Jesus, then we come to fully surrender to His lordship and entitlement over us.

If we have not come to Jesus in this manner of relationship, then we need to be clear, we do not believe in Him.

This is the challenge. Many of us claim to be believers in Jesus as King but our lives are lived under our own authority and control.

Let it be reiterated that faith without works is dead. Are you a true believer in Jesus or are you one who claims to be a believer in Jesus but your life is lived out of your own plans and agenda that you have desired for yourself?

Will you commit to being a believer in Jesus, today? Please be prepared that the cost is your all to Him, nothing less.

The triumphal entry was a fulfilment of prophesy that Jesus was the King. _Matthew 21:4-5 All this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying: (5) “TELL THE DAUGHTER OF ZION, 'BEHOLD, YOUR KING IS COMING TO YOU, LOWLY, AND SITTING ON A DONKEY, A COLT, THE FOAL OF A DONKEY.' "_

The Lord longs for all of us to *believe* that He is the King.

*Thought to ponder*

```Jesus, I believe, I enthrone you as King.```
