09 – 23Apr2022 – The message entrusted to His church - Luke 24:36-49 - COMMISSIONED TO BE HIS WITNESSES - Bible reading: I Corinthians 15:56-58
“Thank You, Lord Jesus, for You are calling us to understand Your resurrection. Your resurrection is what gives us the final victory over death. This is the message that we must share with the world around us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”
The Lord presented Himself to His disciples so that they will be fully grounded on the fact of His resurrection.
Luke 24:38-39 And He said to them, "Why are you troubled? And why do doubts arise in your hearts? (39) Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself. Handle Me and see, for a spirit does not have flesh and bones as you see I have."
The Lord’s final victory is over death.
I Corinthians 15:23-26 But each one in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, afterward those who are Christ's at His coming.
Those who are growing into the image of the heavenly Man will be changed into the body of Jesus, at His coming.
(24) Then comes the end, when He delivers the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. (25) For He must reign till He has put all enemies under His feet. (26) The last enemy that will be destroyed is death.
The Lord's final victory over death coincides with the establishment of the fullness of the kingdom of God.
I Corinthians 15:55-57 “O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR STING? O HADES, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY?"
The devil’s agenda is to bring death to all of mankind and all of God’s creation. The devil is destined for the lake of fire. Matthew 25:41 "Then He will also say to those on the left hand, 'Depart from Me, you cursed, into the everlasting fire prepared for the devil and his angels:
Let us look at the final judgement of God.
Revelation 20:11-15 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and the heaven fled away. And there was found no place for them. (12) And I saw the dead, small and great, standing before God, and books were opened. And another book was opened, which is the Book of Life. And the dead were judged according to their works, by the things which were written in the books. (13) The sea gave up the dead who were in it, and Death and Hades delivered up the dead who were in them. And they were judged, each one according to his works. (14) Then Death and Hades were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. (15) And anyone not found written in the Book of Life was cast into the lake of fire.
It is difficult, even to imagine, how terrible this second death will be, for it is a lake of fire, where death and hades will be cast into. This is where the devil is destined to go. Revelation 20:10 The devil, who deceived them, was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone where the beast and the false prophet are. And they will be tormented day and night forever and ever.
When a person is in this body of dust, it is the right time for that person to cross over from death to life. This life, in this body of dust, will soon pass, after which, there will be the judgement. Hebrews 9:27 And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment,
(56) The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law.
Romans 3:19-20 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. (20) Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the knowledge of sin.
The law pronounces us all, ‘guilty’, before God. This is the brutality of sin. God’s judgement leads to condemnation.
(57) But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
Judgement, therefore, will be on the basis of righteousness by faith in Jesus.
Act 17:31 because He has appointed a day on which He will judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained. He has given assurance of this to all by raising Him from the dead."
The gospel message comprises the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus. This is the gospel message that we must internalise and share with the world.
I Corinthians 15:1-4 Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, (2) by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. (3) For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received : that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, (4) and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures,
Understanding the resurrection of Jesus, we are called to abound in the work of the Lord.
I Corinthians 15:58 Therefore, my beloved brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.
We have been entrusted with this great work of the gospel, to be His witnesses in all spheres of life.
