LUKE 19 28-40 BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD 03 His kingdom of righteousness
10Jan2021 - *His kingdom of righteousness* - _Luke 19:28-40_ - BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD 3
Jesus was focussed to go to Jerusalem and to the cross. This is what the disciples and the rest of the Jews found very difficult to comprehend and accept. In the mind of the disciples, especially, the question that was bothering them was, “Why wasn’t Jesus setting up His kingdom?”
_Luke 19:28 When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem._
The Lord made known to the disciples as to what awaited Him in Jerusalem but the disciples were afraid to ask Him to explain the purpose of the cross and so this was hidden from them.
_Luke 18:31-34 Then He took the twelve aside and said to them, "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and all things that are written by the prophets concerning the Son of Man will be accomplished. (32) For He will be delivered to the Gentiles and will be mocked and insulted and spit upon. (33) They will scourge Him and kill Him. And the third day He will rise again." (34) *But they understood none of these things; this saying was hidden from them, and they did not know the things which were spoken*._
The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which is what this passage is all about, was concerning *the King, who comes in the name of the Lord*
_Luke 19:38 saying: " 'BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!"_
The Lord was fulfilling prophesy of Himself and He longed for the disciples to connect the dots and believe in Him as the King. _Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, *your King is coming to you*; *He is just* and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey_
Yesterday, we discussed the matter of belief in relation to the cross and the King.
As we look at the prophecy in Zechariah, we see that His kingdom was a kingdom of the justice of God. The cross was the way through which the justice of God would be fully met, which is what consists in God’s kingdom.
The King and His kingdom are about the justice of God. The justice and righteousness of God need to be fully met for us to be in His kingdom.
_Romans 3:23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,_ Man’s sin needs to be atoned for God to reconcile us to Himself. The process of reconciliation needs to meet the righteousness of God. Only then God would be just.
_I John 3:5 And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin._
Jesus became the sinless lamb of God, who was slain before the foundation of the world. _Revelation 13:8 All who dwell on the earth will worship him, whose names have not been written in the Book of Life of *the Lamb slain from the foundation of the world*._
John the Baptist testified that Jesus was the lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world. _John 1:29 The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, "Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!_
The cross was the place where the atonement of man’s sin was made, which would meet the justice of God.
_I Peter 1:17-20 And if you call on the Father, *who without partiality judges* according to each one's work, conduct yourselves throughout the time of your stay here in fear; (18) knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, (19) but with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (20) He indeed was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you_
God’s justice was fully met in Jesus. _II Corinthians 5:21 For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him._
The cross was necessary for man’s sin to be atoned and man to be reckoned as righteous before God, to be in His kingdom. To be in His kingdom, which has already begun, we need to clothed with the righteousness of Jesus, which we appropriate by faith.
_Revelation 19:8-9 And to her it was granted to be arrayed in fine linen, clean and bright, for *the fine linen is the righteous acts of the saints*. (9) Then he said to me, "Write: 'Blessed are those who are called to the marriage supper of the Lamb!' " And he said to me, "These are the true sayings of God."_
Our righteous acts are lives that are lived in such a way that brings faith into action, continuously.
The kingdom of God is of righteousness. _Psalm 45:6 Your throne, O God, is forever and ever; A scepter of righteousness is the scepter of Your kingdom._
The Lord longs for us to perceive the full picture of the cross and His kingdom and perceiving, will believe. _John 13:19 Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He._ (Keeping in mind the right understanding of belief)
*Thought to ponder*
```Let us seek first His kingdom and His righteousness.```
