📖 Luke 19:28-40
9th Mar 26 | 13:18

11Jan2021 - *From the kingdom of darkness into the kingdom of light* - _Luke 19:28-40_ - BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD 4 – Bible reading: _Matthew 4:16-17_

The Lord was going to Jerusalem and to the cross. He had to go to the cross in order that He will make the way for us into His kingdom.

_Luke 19:28-31 When He had said this, He went on ahead, going up to Jerusalem. (29) And it came to pass, when He drew near to Bethphage and Bethany, at the mountain called Olivet, that He sent two of His disciples, (30) saying, "Go into the village opposite you, where as you enter you will find a colt tied, on which no one has ever sat. Loose it and bring it here.  (31) And if anyone asks you, 'Why are you loosing it?' thus you shall say to him, 'Because the Lord has need of it.' "_

The triumphal entry of Jesus into Jerusalem, which is what this study is about, is concerning *the King, who comes in the name of the Lord*. The Lord longs for us to see Him in His fullness and believe in Him.

The Lord was fulfilling prophesy of Himself and He longed for the disciples to connect the dots and believe in Him as the King. _Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, *your King is coming to you*; He is just and *having salvation*, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey_

Yesterday, we considered the aspect of the justice of God, in His kingdom. God would be justified if we would meet His righteous standards. Only then we could be in His kingdom.

Jesus provided us with the righteousness of God by going to the cross and there fulfilling on our behalf the righteous requirement of God. We are clothed with the righteousness of Jesus and thereby we participate and become citizens of God’s kingdom.

The kingdom of God is also about the salvation of God.

There is much to be understood in terms of the salvation of God. We will consider just one facet of the salvation of God, which is God saving man from the kingdom of darkness. Once we were in the kingdom of darkness but the Lord, through the cross has saved us out of the kingdom of darkness and saved us into the kingdom of light.

_Colossians 1:13 He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love,_

This too is the fulfilment of prophecy. _Isaiah 9:2 The people who walked in darkness Have seen a great light; Those who dwelt in the land of the shadow of death, Upon them a light has shined._

The prophecy of the Old Testament is confirmed in the life of Jesus. _Matthew 4:16-17 THE *PEOPLE WHO SAT IN DARKNESS HAVE SEEN A GREAT LIGHT*, AND UPON THOSE WHO SAT IN THE REGION AND SHADOW OF DEATH LIGHT HAS DAWNED." (17) From that time Jesus began to preach and to say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."_

The Lord took us out of the kingdom of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of light of which we are witnesses.

_I Peter 2:9-10 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him *who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light*; (10) who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy._

We, who once were not a people, are now made into the people of the kingdom of light. This deliverance happened for man at the cross. The powers of darkness that held sway over us were defeated and disarmed on the cross. Jesus triumphed over the powers of darkness on the cross.

_Colossians 2:14-15 having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (15) Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it._

By going to the cross, Jesus set us free from the prison in which the devil held us in the captivity of death.

_Hebrews 2:14-15 Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, (15) and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage._

The Lord longs for us to perceive the full picture of the cross and His kingdom, and perceiving will believe. _John 13:19 Now I tell you before it comes, that when it does come to pass, you may believe that I am He._ (Keeping in mind the right understanding of belief)

*Thought to ponder*

```There is no hope for man outside of the cross of Jesus Christ.```
