_Malachi 2:15-16 But did He not make them one, Having a remnant of the Spirit? And why one? He seeks godly offspring. "Therefore take heed to your spirit, And let none deal treacherously with the wife of his youth. (16) "For the LORD God of Israel says That He hates divorce, For it covers one's garment with violence," Says the LORD of hosts. Therefore take heed to your spirit, That you do not deal treacherously."_

_Luke 16:18 “Whoever divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery; and whoever marries her who is divorced from her husband commits adultery._

We have been considering the covenantal relationship of marriage and we have now begun looking at the aspect of raising a godly generation based out of that covenantal relationship. Building the husband and his wife relationship on a covenantal basis, we should be raising godly generations that are raised to build God’s kingdom and His righteousness.

Look at how we raise our children. The goals and aspirations that we place in their hearts and minds, from a very early age are materialistic. We tell them that this is a competitive world and so if they must succeed in life, they must study well. So, the motivation that we give our children for their studies is towards success, which is largely materialistic. We communicate this purpose to them both overtly as well as covertly.

_Matthew 6:31-33 “Therefore do not worry, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?' (32) For after all these things the Gentiles seek._ The materialistic pursuits of life are the pursuit of the world. We have not taken it seriously that we have been taken out of the world. We are in this world but we are not of this world. _For your heavenly Father knows that you need all these things._ We should have demonstrated as well as taught our children that God knows our material needs more than we do and so that is not what we are anxious about in life. _(33) But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you._ We ought to have strongly inculcated into our children that we are raising you to be captains in God’s kingdom, in different professions and vocations. We also ought to have raised our children both by practice as well as by teaching that we are here in an unrighteous world to be men and women of righteousness.

Today, we complain that we live in a fallen world. Now, do we see where the rot began?

By raising our children with materialistic dreams, what did we do to them? _I Timothy 6:9-10 But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (10) For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows._ We actually pushed them away from trusting God.

_Deuteronomy 8:2-5 And you shall remember that the LORD your God led you all the way these forty years in the wilderness, to humble you and test you, to know what was in your heart, whether you would keep His commandments or not. (3) So He humbled you, allowed you to hunger, and fed you with manna which you did not know nor did your fathers know, that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone; but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of the LORD. (4) Your garments did not wear out on you, nor did your foot swell these forty years. (5) You should know in your heart that as a man chastens his son, so the LORD your God chastens you._

The Lord led the Hebrews through the desert in order to teach them one lesson. “Man shall not live by bread alone, but man lives by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God”. Did they learn this lesson? A good number of them perished in the wilderness, for they did not learn this lesson.

What a huge task and responsibility it is for parents to raise a godly generation for His kingdom and for His righteousness.

*Thought to ponder*

Will you and your spouse commit to raising captains for His kingdom and His righteousness, from your home?
