14Jan2021 - *The Shalom of God* - _Luke 19:28-40_ - BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD 7 – Bible reading: _Luke 2:10-14_

Jesus was fulfilling prophesy as He entered Jerusalem on a donkey. He was the King who was entering.

_Zechariah 9:9 “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion! Shout, O daughter of Jerusalem! Behold, *your King is coming to you*; He is just and having salvation, Lowly and riding on a donkey, A colt, the foal of a donkey_

We have been looking into this prophesy and have been considering aspects of the kingdom of God specified in the prophecy. These were set in place at the cross.

The disciples needed to trust and welcome Him as King into their heart but they had to appreciate the significance and importance of the cross for the fullness of God’s kingdom to be birthed in them.

We now see the disciples and the people rejoicing and voicing out the fulfilment of prophecy.

_Luke 19:37-38 Then, as He was now drawing near the descent of the Mount of Olives, the whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, (38) saying: " 'BLESSED IS THE KING WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' *Peace in heaven* and glory in the highest!"_

This was fulfilment of yet another prophecy in the Old Testament.

_Psalm 118:22-26 The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. (23) This was the LORD's doing; It is marvelous in our eyes. (24) This is the day the LORD has made; We will rejoice and be glad in it. (25) Save now, I pray, O LORD; O LORD, I pray, send now prosperity. (26) Blessed is he who comes in the name of the LORD! We have blessed you from the house of the LORD._

Peace in heaven and glory in the highest was what the disciples shouted as they welcomed the King into Jerusalem.

Peace here is not just the absence of conflict, as we understand peace today, but peace meant the Shalom of God, which is of a much larger scope. The peace or Shalom of God meant the fullness and wellness of life in all areas.

The peace or the Shalom of God is four-dimensional. (1) Man ought to be in communion, in a harmonious relationship with God, (2) man ought to be in a harmonious relationship within himself, (3) man ought to be in a harmonious relationship with one another and (4) man ought to be in a harmonious relationship with creation.

This was the experience that man and woman had in the garden of Eden. They had the Shalom of God, which was life in the kingdom of God.

When man sinned, they were sent out of the garden, they were banished from the Shalom of God.

Man is dead/alienated/broken in all of the four dimensions of Shalom. God longs for man to be reconciled back with Him and come back to the garden, to the Shalom experience, which is the experience of the kingdom of God.

This was the message the angels gave to the shepherds. Peace on earth and goodwill towards men is the message of God to man. God is making the way for man to come back into His kingdom, for man to come back to the Shalom experience.

_Luke 2:10-14 Then the angel said to them, "Do not be afraid, for behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy which will be to all people. (11) For there is born to you this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. (12) And this will be the sign to you: You will find a Babe wrapped in swaddling cloths, lying in a manger." (13) And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying: (14) “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!"_

We will now consider how, at the cross, Jesus restored each of those four dimensions of Shalom and provided the way for us to come back into the kingdom of God, into the Shalom experience in God’s kingdom.

*Thought to ponder*
