24 – 10May2022 – The glory of the nations - Luke 24:36-49 - COMMISSIONED TO BE HIS WITNESSES - Bible reading: Revelation 21:23-26

“Thank You, Lord Jesus. Your message of reconciliation must go to the ends of the earth. To this purpose, You are commissioning us. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

Luke 24:47 and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem.

We are commissioned to take the message of God’s reconciliation with man, through Jesus, to all the nations of the world.

All of us are commissioned. We ought not to be thinking of our areas of specializations from economic considerations but from the perspective of heaven. Our talents, skills, education and experience, all converge to where God places us, to reach a specific target audience, for whom we have been chosen before time began.

Isaiah 2:1-3 The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem. (2) Now it shall come to pass in the latter days That the mountain of the LORD's house Shall be established on the top of the mountains, And shall be exalted above the hills; And all nations shall flow to it. (3) Many people shall come and say, "Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, To the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths." For out of Zion shall go forth the law, And the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.

The nations of the world will actually say, "Come, and let us go to the house of the God of Jacob; He will teach us His ways, And we shall walk in His paths."

We ought to be those, who communicate the message of Christ, continuously, through all aspects of life. This is not our hidden agenda but it is our open agenda. We love people, we reach out to people, genuinely, we are their friends, however, they may respond to us. We long for them to be reconciled with God.

Isaiah 60:1-3 Arise, shine; For your light has come! And the glory of the LORD is risen upon you. (2) For behold, the darkness shall cover the earth, And deep darkness the people; But the LORD will arise over you, And His glory will be seen upon you. (3) The Gentiles shall come to your light, And kings to the brightness of your rising.

We are sent to places, where there is darkness. The Lord promises us that the Gentiles shall come to the light.

We are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We do not live life in two compartments. Our professions are extensions of our relationship with Jesus. The world should not accuse us of poor performance in our jobs or in our studies. Whatever we do, we do it all for the glory of God.

Malachi 1:11 For from the rising of the sun, even to its going down, My name shall be great among the Gentiles; In every place incense shall be offered to My name, And a pure offering; For My name shall be great among the nations," Says the LORD of hosts.

We are commissioned along with the promise of God, that people from the East to the West, will turn to God because we were His witnesses.

Romans 10:11-18 For the Scripture says, "WHOEVER BELIEVES ON HIM WILL NOT BE PUT TO SHAME." (12) For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him. (13) For " WHOEVER CALLS ON THE NAME OF THE LORD SHALL BE SAVED ." (14) How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? (15) And how shall they preach unless they are sent? As it is written: " HOW BEAUTIFUL ARE THE FEET OF THOSE WHO PREACH THE GOSPEL OF PEACE, WHO BRING GLAD TIDINGS OF GOOD THINGS !" (16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Isaiah says, "LORD, WHO HAS BELIEVED OUR REPORT?" (17) So then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. (18) But I say, have they not heard? Yes indeed: " THEIR SOUND HAS GONE OUT TO ALL THE EARTH, AND THEIR WORDS TO THE ENDS OF THE WORLD ."

Our life and our words ring out a continuous message of God reconciling the world to Himself. They will see God’s word, becoming flesh in us, His witnesses. People are reading us. As they read our lives, faith is born in their hearts. When faith is born and they call on the name of Jesus, their cry is heard and they are saved.

Colossians 1:27-28 To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (28) Him we preach, warning every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, that we may present every man perfect in Christ Jesus.

We preach and teach Jesus by demonstration.

Let us look at the final picture of the New Jerusalem.

Revelation 21:23-26 The city had no need of the sun or of the moon to shine in it, for the glory of God illuminated it. The Lamb is its light. (24) And the nations of those who are saved shall walk in its light, and the kings of the earth bring their glory and honor into it. (25) Its gates shall not be shut at all by day (there shall be no night there). (26) And they shall bring the glory and the honor of the nations into it.

In the New Jerusalem, the nations, and peoples from all walks of life will bring their glory.

Thought to ponder

The church exists for the nations.
