*God of vengeance* _Luke 1:37-54_

Yesterday, I said, ‘the fact that we will need to keep in mind is that we will be persecuted from city to city’, for we are prophets of our generation. God’s wrath and judgment will surely fall on those who persecute His prophets. This is the righteous judgment of God that we are counted worthy of the kingdom of God, for which we also suffer. Since it is a righteous thing with God to repay with tribulation those who trouble us _II Thessalonians 1:5-6/Jeremiah 51:56/Psalm 94:1-2._

It is not that God is threatening people but this is part of His character that those who persecute the righteous will be punished.

The second matter that I have been saying these past few days is that each new generation is guiltier than the one that has gone before, since the weight of history, weighs more heavily on the new generation. Every generation cannot claim ignorance of what has gone before. We are expected to learn from the mistakes of our fathers, repent and come under the Lordship of Jesus Christ. If we do not, our hands are with those, who have gone before, in persecuting the persons of God and we become deserving of God’s vengeance _Luke 11:50-51._

What does all of this mean for us, as we consider the vengeance of God? If we continue to let the self to rule our lives, if we do not submit to the lordship of Christ over us, after knowing Christ, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins. The death of Jesus on the cross for our sins, (which is the rule of the self in our lives), has no relevance for us. What now falls over us is a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation, which will devour the adversaries of God. _Remember, we will be counted as adversaries, since we have not submitted/surrendered to the lordship of Christ over us._ Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. Of how much worse punishment, do we suppose, will we be thought worthy, who have trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which we were sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord. And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." _Please note that the Lord will judge His people._ It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God _Hebrews 10:26-31._

For it is impossible for those, who were once enlightened, and have tasted the heavenly gift of salvation, and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit, and have tasted the good word of God and the powers of the age to come, if they fall away, (go back live under the rule of the self and not of God) *to renew them again to repentance*, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. For the earth, which drinks in the rain that often comes upon it, and bears herbs useful for those by whom it is cultivated, receives blessing from God; but if it bears thorns and briers, it is rejected and near to being cursed, whose end is to be burned _Hebrews 6:4-8._

God encourages those who fear Him and submit to His lordship over them, "Be strong, do not fear! Behold, your God will come with vengeance, With the recompense of God; He will come and save you." _Isaiah 35:4._

*Thought to ponder*

```The time of God’s mercy will come to an end and then we will have to face the vengeance of God.```
