LUKE 19 41-44 YOU DID NOT KNOW THE TIME OF YOUR VISITATION 04 The warning from the history of the Jews
24Jan2021 - *The warning from the history of the Jews* - _Luke 19:41-44_ - YOU DID NOT KNOW THE TIME OF YOUR VISITATION 4 – Bible reading: _Luke 21:20-24_
We have been seeing the pain of God’s heart that people had eyes but were not able to see, they had ears but were not able to hear and know that the Prince of Peace was visiting with them.
_Luke 19:42 saying, "If you had known, even you, especially in this your day, the things that make for your peace! But now they are hidden from your eyes._
_Matthew 23:37-39 “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, the one who kills the prophets and stones those who are sent to her! How often I wanted to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing! (38) See! Your house is left to you desolate; (39) for I say to you, you shall see Me no more till you say, 'BLESSED is HE WHO COMES IN THE NAME OF THE LORD!' "_
God’s presence was hidden from their eyes since they chose to keep God out of their lives and live by their own choosing. The Lord then foretold the people of what was to happen because of their unbelief.
This was not a condemnation or a curse on the people but a natural consequence of rejecting God.
_Luke 19:43-44 For days will come upon you when your enemies will build an embankment around you, surround you and close you in on every side, (44) and level you, and your children within you, to the ground; and they will not leave in you one stone upon another, because you did not know the time of your visitation."_
We also read of how the disciples were showing Jesus the beauty of the temple at Jerusalem and its construction. The Lord’s response to them was sobering and far-reaching.
_Matthew 24:1-2 Then Jesus went out and departed from the temple, and His disciples came up to show Him the buildings of the temple. (2) And Jesus said to them, "Do you not see all these things? Assuredly, I say to you, not one stone shall be left here upon another, that shall not be thrown down."_
The Lord prophesied of what was to happen.
_Luke 21:20-24 “But when you see Jerusalem surrounded by armies, then know that its desolation is near. (21) Then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains, let those who are in the midst of her depart, and let not those who are in the country enter her. (22) For these are the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled. (23) But woe to those who are pregnant and to those who are nursing babies in those days! For there will be great distress in the land and wrath upon this people. (24) And they will fall by the edge of the sword, and be led away captive into all nations. And Jerusalem will be trampled by Gentiles until the times of the Gentiles are fulfilled._
When we read prophesy, we need to remember that the fulfilment is both near as well as far into time.
The fulfilment of what Jesus prophesied of what would happen to Jerusalem and to the Jewish people was literally fulfilled when Jerusalem was besieged by Caesar Titus. He surrounded it with a wall. When this was effected, the Jews were so enclosed in on every side, that no person could escape from the city, and no provision could be brought in. This happened in 70AD.
The Jewish people have had to go through suffering, tragedy, ridicule, hate and vengeance against them, all through history. So, prophesy from scripture has both near and far-reaching fulfilment.

What is the lesson for us, as we understand what has happened to the Jewish people and to the city of Jerusalem, in particular?
There is much to learn. We are immediately confronted with the surety of God’s word. _Matthew 24:35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will by no means pass away._
When we see the guarantee of God’s word, how important it is for us to be aligned with His word, especially when we contrast the word of God against the temporal nature of our world.
The other crucial lesson is that all that happened with the Jewish people and in Jewish history is an example to the rest of us that we should not make the same mistakes that they made.
_I Corinthians 10:6 Now these things became our examples, to the intent that we should not lust after evil things as they also lusted. I Corinthians 10:11-12 Now all these things happened to them as examples, and they were written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the ages have come. (12) Therefore let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall._
*Thought to ponder*
```“Lord, give us eyes to see and ears to hear, your message, of and from our times.”```
