02 – 14May2022 – The Lord keep you - Luke 24:50-53 - THE BLESSING OF GOD - Bible reading: Psalms 91:9-11

“Thank You, Lord Jesus, that You have blessed us and You have kept us in this world to be a blessing to others. We are here to usher people into the Shalom of God. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.”

The Lord ascended to heaven and as He ascended, He blessed His disciples.

Luke 24:50-51 And He led them out as far as Bethany, and He lifted up His hands and blessed them. (51) Now it came to pass, while He blessed them, that He was parted from them and carried up into heaven.

The final act of the Lord was to bless His disciples. What is the blessing of God? God is our blessing. To be in Him is our blessing.

To understand the blessing of God in more detail, we shall study the Aaronic blessing.

Numbers 6:23-27 "Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, 'This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: (24) "The LORD bless you and keep you; (25) The LORD make His face shine upon you, And be gracious to you; (26) The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, And give you peace." (27) "So they shall put My name on the children of Israel, and I will bless them."

The name of the Lord is upon the people of Israel, which we can see even today.

The Lord keep you

Psalms 91:9-11 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, (10) No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; (11) For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.

This blessing of God keeping us is experienced when we make God our refuge and our dwelling place. We ought to be in the habitat of God.

We are not aware of all the problems that are happening around us. There are some that we see but there are many things that we do not see. Every day we are being kept by God. This is His blessing on us. One day, the Lord may reveal to us, how He has kept us from day to day, but the reality is that we are being kept by God from many dangers that we are not aware of. This is His blessing.

Philippians 4:6-7 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; (7) and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

It is important to bring our needs to God, not with bitterness, but with thanksgiving. When we present our requests to God, with thanksgiving, the Lord keeps us in His Shalom.

People undergo depression, fears and anxieties and are not rested at all. Whereas, the blessing for God’s people, who commit their needs to God, with thanksgiving, is to be kept in the Shalom of God. This Shalom of God, which exceeds all understanding, keeps our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus. This is a great blessing.

I Thessalonians 5:23-24 Now may the God of peace Himself sanctify you completely; and may your whole spirit, soul, and body be preserved blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. (24) He who calls you is faithful, who also will do it.

The keeping of God is that He sanctifies us, in our spirit, soul and in our bodies. He cleanses us in all areas of our lives.

People’s hearts and minds are seared with sin. They are in bondage and are struggling to overcome sin. They are tormented. They try various ways and means to come out of their addictions but they remain in severe captivity. We are all faced with temptations and the cravings of the flesh.

The blessing of God is that He cleanses us in our spirit, soul and body. We are kept blameless by God. This is a blessing. He who has called us is faithful and He will do it.

Isaiah 42:6-7 "I, the LORD, have called You in righteousness, And will hold Your hand; I will keep You and give You as a covenant to the people, As a light to the Gentiles, (7) To open blind eyes, To bring out prisoners from the prison, Those who sit in darkness from the prison house.

We are blessed and kept in order to be a light to the people, who are in darkness. We are a covenant to the people, who are far away from God. We are stepping stones and bridges for people to cross over and be reconciled with God.

John 17:11 Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, keep through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one as We are.

Today we are struggling to have oneness amongst us. Why are we not appropriating the blessing of God and experiencing oneness in the body of Christ? The Lord is keeping us so that we, as the church, will be one as the Lord is one. We are already blessed to be one. This is a great blessing.

All that we have considered today as the blessing of God, to keep us, is for us to receive and embrace. How very sad and foolish that even when the Lord has blessed us, we still live impoverished lives.

Thought to ponder

Are you embracing the keeping of God?
