Luke 16 19-31 Released from self cetredness 15 Life spent for Him, till the very end
18May2020 - *Life spent for Him, till the very end* - _Luke 16:19-31_ - Bible reading: _Hebrews 10:26-39_
_Luke 16:23 And being in torments in Hades, he lifted up his eyes and saw Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom._
The rich man is crying and screaming his warning to us to take our eyes away from the temporal things of life and gaze on Jesus. He was seeing very clearly now, in hades, in torment but oh! How we wish he had seen, while he was here on earth. Our time on earth is very short. Let us not make the eternal blunder of allowing our eyes to feast on the temporal things of life.
This is the reason why our prayer should be, "Lord, keep me from setting my heart on the material and temporal things of life but rather to set my heart on pilgrimage”. _Psalm 84:5 Blessed is the man whose strength is in You, *Whose heart is set on pilgrimage*._ We are pilgrims, passing through this world and our time here needs to be poured out as a drink offering on the altar of God, *to be spent for Him*, to love Him and love our neighbour.
We now are looking at a passage, which disturbs evangelical born-again Christians. _Hebrews 10:26-31 For if we sin wilfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, (27) but a certain fearful expectation of judgment, and fiery indignation which will devour the adversaries. (28) Anyone who has rejected Moses' law dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. (29) Of how much worse punishment, do you suppose, will he be thought worthy who has trampled the Son of God underfoot, counted the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified a common thing, and insulted the Spirit of grace? (30) For we know Him who said, "VENGEANCE IS MINE, I WILL REPAY," says the Lord. And again, "THE LORD WILL JUDGE HIS PEOPLE." (31) It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God._
This is for those of us who have come to the truth by His grace, by faith in Him. We have known Him but after knowing Him, if we go back to the temporal things of life and look to God only to make sure He meets our temporal needs, then this passage will apply to us. God will surely look after us but He sees our heart, if we desire Him or if our heart desires the material things of life.
After we have been illuminated, let us not cast away our focus on eternity. _Hebrews 10:35-39 Therefore do not cast away your confidence, which has great reward. (36) For you have need of endurance, so that after you have done the will of God, you may receive the promise: (37) “FOR YET A LITTLE WHILE, AND HE WHO IS COMING WILL COME AND WILL NOT TARRY. (38) NOW THE JUST SHALL LIVE BY FAITH; BUT IF ANYONE DRAWS BACK, MY SOUL HAS NO PLEASURE IN HIM." (39) But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul._
We have need of endurance, *be spent for Him*, till the very end, to stay in the way of righteousness. The Bible tells us very clearly that there is a possibility to draw back to perdition, therefore we must continue in faith in Him, till the very end of our life.
He provides us with all the resources for us to stay the course. _Philippians 2:12-13 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; (13) for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure._ God works in us both to will and to do His good pleasure.
God will judge *His people* and it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. God loves us and so He warns us.
*Thought to ponder*
```Where are you today in your life journey? Are you walking by faith or by sight?```
